Here's a fun fact for you: capybaras in their natural habitat (especially Brazil) may carry a tick (Amblyomma cajennense) carrying the bacteria Rickettsia rickettsii. When ticks infected with said bacteria bite and infect humans (it has to be attached to a human for at least a few hours for the infection to happen), it may lead to a type of fever (I think it's called spotted fever in English, or at least a type of it), that has a lethality of up to 80% if not treated in time.
Not long ago in Brazil, there was a small outbreak in the state of São Paulo, where 6 people got infected, 4 of which died.
The moral of the story is: If you go to a South American country and you see a cute, wild capybara, avoid it.
