We went pretty quickly from "Man, this Windows bloatware is really slowing down my computer" to "Man, this Windows bloatware just crashed grandpa's dialysis machine"

This exposed a massive flaw in IT right now. Nothing that is auto-updated through the internet should be running in Kernel mode. The fact that a third-party company can brick millions of systems remotely IS the problem, not whether it was done maliciously or accidentally. I wonder if Crowdstrike as a company will survive this. Clients are uninstalling it and it's stock is plummeting. Their business is security and trust. Are they trustworthy?

The CEO of Crowdstrike did this as CTO of mcafee too. He is single handedly the most dangerous person to have ever been in IT

Well, you can't hack a computer that has crashed :)

"Cloud-based security" is an oxymoron.

As soon as I heard this on the news, I ran outside, looked up to the skies and saw a translucent, oversized head, of Mental Outlaw above the clouds, smiling down at me from the heavens. I asked him, "Bad OPSEC?", he winked, threw out a thumb's up, and replied "Bad OPSEC".

Crowdstrike (noun): a large-scale outage or damage of infrastructure caused by the combination of an external vendor's action and industry-wide reliance on said vendor. Example: "The latest crowdstrike has caused a massive disruption of emergency services."
Crowdstrike (verb, simple past and past participle "crowdstruck"): to cause such an outage to happen. Example: "I told my boss this policy would likely crowdstrike us, but I was overruled."

That incident shouldnt have even been possible. the amount of people that should have checked it for issues should have been way longer

They pushed a file full of 0 bits. Hence the null dereference. No canary, no file checksums, no testing at all, just pushed it to every single system. Absolute amateur bafoons at work. That was for sure not a just a single person's fault. What an absolute joke of a company.

I work as a gardener and cashier. My bosses are super cheap and google services for their transactions. That saved them any trouble from this, I didn't even know anything was wrong that morning until a customer explained it to me. On the flip side, google is gathering data in everything they do, but so would microsoft or whoever else. Ludicrous privacy invasion is normal now.

Install malware on your computers and surprised Pikachu face when it bites you... Classic corporate move

Scary how such a large portion of our infrastructure runs on proprietary software.

You don't need to yank the disk out anyways, just boot the separate disk from BIOS.
But we're talking corporate employees that barely if at all understand what a File is.

What a coincidence that my TempleOS machine was unaffected!!

The corporate world outsources everything now to cut down their own labor costs. I lost my job when my department got outsourced to a third party company who does a worse job now.
