Knees Over Toes Guy be looking at this one.
Also, will my knees be healthy in Airborne in the Army if I follow your training?

Finally the truth.
I started out squatting and got ridicule when my knees always go over my toes even though I felt more stable.
Pfft goes to show don't always listen to your gym bros

I’ve always been skeptical of this advice but I fell prey to the scolders. The result was I lost the ability to squat and ultimately had great difficulty getting up and down off the floor if needed. After back surgery I had difficulty recovering. Then I saw the YouTube video promoting the benefits of the Asian squat. I began practicing to recover the ability and rediscovered the meaning of the phrase “Use it or lose it.”

I heard that damn myth years ago when I first started lifting in high school. Absolutely ruined the squat for me when I listened to it, I would always end up with lower back pain from rounding it and I couldn’t lift heavier weight. Once I discarded that information thanks to channels like yours, I began to love squats and have been slowly and steadily progressing in strength. Thanks a million Squat University!

Do a post on teaching people to keep there eyes up, where your eyes are in your lifting affects your posture during the lift

I grew up in a mud wrestling pit and I was encouraged to go all the way down. But day 1 at a gym and I was bombarded with "trainers" telling me to keep my knees back. I genuinely thought I would be paralyzed.

If your form is terrible, dont go to far forward. Only with good ankle mobility should knees go forward excessively.

To be precise it’s barely over the toes. I use this knee over the toes guidelines in leg press mainly and lunges. As for squats I try to stick my butt out more to prevent it and keep my back flat/arched.

Real advice.
Do this with caution.
Every person has different proportions to their body parts. Height also matters.
Know your body and make sure youre working the muscle to near failure regularly. Muscle mind connection. Safe form

Would love to see your take on box squats (Westside Barbell style), where the knees actually travel backwards. Been super beneficial for me, and I believe they’re highly underrated in the fitness industry

Well this explains why i feel like im going to fall backwards when i squat *correctly*. I have chondromalacia and this causes knee pain here and there … which only gets worse the more heavy and intense i go, due to more load on the knee cap. I was advised by my orthopedic surgeon (though i havent had surgery, i went for a consult about knee pain) to not squat or lunge anymore and not jog on hard surfaces. None of which i stopped doing. But he did say going past 45 degrees will tear up my cartilage faster and speed up the degeneration. I go to 45 maybe a smidge past, until i feel the stretch in my glutes then back up. Knees past toes even with knee braces, just causes extra pain i dont need or want. I get the gains and the tone and definition so far that I am wanting. I am getting older and dont want to speed up the need for surgery

pretty much breaks down to if you want to work one muscle group optimally you need assistance from othe muscle groups to maintain vital stability

Do you have any tips for loosening up the ankle/ Achilles to help the shin go further over foot in squat position?

Interesting how you say you shouldn’t fear knees over toes yet you should fear spinal flexion 😉

How do you feel about squat shoes given that they incline the heel rather than keeping your feet flat?
