Weighted Average with the SUMPRODUCT Function in Excel - Weighted Mean

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video, we use the SUMPRODUCT function to calculate the weighted average of a range of values.

When calculating the average, all values are assumed to be equal.

However the weighted average, or weighted arithmetic mean, applies greater weight to some values more than others. This can often make more sense.

In the video, we calculate the weighted average of a range of assessment scores for an individual. But some assessments hold a greater value than others.

The weighted average is found by multiplying each value by its weight, then summing the products and then dividing these totals by the sum of the weights.

This makes SUMPRODUCT the perfect function for the job, along with the SUM function also.

I use the weighted average allt the time as a business controller because it is often more relevant than the usual average in our business. The way you demonstrate it's use is much more efficient than my way so thank you! It really helps :-)

No need to divide by the sum of the weights because the weights are percentages.

My problem for the weighted average of steel indices as shown in our agreement - like this : -
(iii) Adjustment for Steel Component
Price adjustment for increase or decrease in the cost of Steel procured
