This is standard on Fender maple necks/fretboards.

Coated frets so you don't have to spend extra money for Elixir coated strings!

I bought a USA Deluxe Strat in 2000. Nearly all the frets were covered in lacquer

Well I'll be dipped in polyurethane!

Such a cool build. Can't wait to see and hear the finished product. Looking good Sir!

It's Fenders self leveling fret system

This is standard on Fender maple fretboards. My Eric Clapton Model had the same thing. It's from how fender lacquers the fretboard after the frets are installed. They call it normal.

That’s normal for fenders. Wears off fairly quickly. Doesn’t bother most I guess.

They charge extra for that protective coating

I bought my 2, 000 made in Mexico telecaster brand new right off the wall from a music store that was going out of business 4380 and I made him throw in the case.. I retired from live playing at the end of 2016 and by my estimate I probably played close to 1900 shows with this guitar.
Her neck shows a lot of wear and tear, and I've had to replace some of the frets the tone pot is disconnected completely, I replaced the saddles with graphite, and I replaced the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan STK -II stacked humbucker..
She is the best sounding telecaster I have ever heard and a lot of local musicians would agree with that statement

Huh. My $200 mad cat firefly with maple neck that just arrived didn't have any of that....

It amaze's me how many people prefer Fender. My friend haf a 70's Strat of the 3 bolt on neck variety, that never would stay in tune! My Gibson S-1 never went out of tune!

Usually it flakes right off like this, but I've seen cases where they sprayed too heavy, and it created a real problem.Makes them difficult to refret, as well.
I like maple fingerboards, but there are better aftermarket products available, with a wider array of spec options.Rosewood and Ebony are, definitely, -more practical.

I've seen it on every fret on a neck. the hidden danger here is while you can chip it off it might not break cleanly where the fret touches the wood. Then comes seasonal changes and frets popping up.

Sean, that keeps the frets from turning green from the taco 🌮 sauce on their fingers...lolol 😂

My jazzmaster had it too other than needing a shim, and that pretty solid guitar.

I bought a new maple neck from Warmoth and it was like that they told me that they did that to all necks with finish on them and to just scrape it off.

I like my maple fretboard natural lightly oiled 😊

For only $100 more, they'll also paint your car, while you wait!

Same thing on my 2k Fender Am Pro 2 Tele... apparently they laquer over all frets on maple boards and you have to remove the finish yourself
