OMG INVENTOR 2018 WHAT'S NEW!

Well this was a surprise! Normally I'd have something prepared but ehm, yea, I wasn't expecting this already so soon! So let's just have a glance over the new features in Autodesk Inventor 2018, with proper videos on all individual new features to come soon!

Neil, some clarification on the AnyCAD for Inventor functionality. It is not 2018 saving as 2017.4 format. Rather, it is a 2017.4 user being able to open a 2018 Inventor files with AnyCAD workflows without having to do conversion of the source file. Once the 2017.4 user moves to 2018, all the 2018 files will then be fully featured models without any additional work from the user. This is intended to allow Inventor customers to be able to work together without forcing users to be on the same release version. Hope that makes sense.

When we will have a proper image import (jpg, png, bmp, etc.) in Inventor drawings with rotate, scale, move and basic functions like this AND when we export the drawings as pdf those images won't be stretched, skewed or misplaced?

Does the 3D Annotation give you the ability to add centerlines? For example, a bolt circle centerline or a centerline down the center of a slot?

I saw that you had the Parameters window open, but do you know if they have fixed it so the "Parameters" window can be kept open while working on a file rather than having to open it each time to make a change and then close it to see the effect? It is annoying to open and close it each time I want to make a change or add a variable.

Model based definitions seem nice. But I am really struggling to get them them to work on migrated 2017 parts - every time I add an annotation I get an error message about not being able to update a style. However, my style library is read/write, and I've saved/updated/purged the part, and I don't know what else to check. It's the bottom drop down in document settings, and there is something that's read only or missing in migrated parts. Also, MBD seem to use a mini

In inventor 2018, is there any way that you Can you search for parts with specific properties? p.x. material= stainless steel, or for parts with a thickness of 1.5mm?

Regarding the "passive" performance increase, or performance optimization. I spent 15 years working in the video game industry and half of that was as a Graphics Programmer. That stuff happens in time. One year after some new research came out I rewrote the Command & Conquer rendering pipeline and saved 4ms/frame with a naive implementation. Big gains like that can happen in software.
