Beginning with a little nostalgic nod to the history of Autodesk Inventor, we proceed to take a look at what the Inventor team have jammed into the 2019 release of Autodesk Inventor.

First off, I have learned SO much from your videos over the last few years and you're very much my go to guy for any freaky Inventor questions I have. My first place to look for anything Inventorish is on your YouTube site. Keep up the fantastic work!

Having said that, I spent about 15 yeas in the Soldworks world and have been on Inventor for the last 3 years. I would happily pay a slight performance penalty for "maintained part mirror constraint in assemblies". Yes there are work arounds but they all take more user time than just leaving the mirror reference in place. It seems that people have been asking for this for as many years as Inventor has existed. I would love to hear your thoughts on this... and I promise to actually listen to what you have to say.

Nice one Neil, cheers! This is the first year since 2006 I haven't had the time to beta test Inventor, and after watching this I think I won't bother in the future, I'll just wait for your video instead. :D As far as the bug fix versus new features thing goes, personally I'm pretty happy about that. For years I've not been too bothered about many of the new features and have wished some of the general wonkiness of Inventor would be ironed out instead, so I'm glad they're starting to make an effort to do this rather than giving us a bunch of shiny-but-often-useless toys. Looks like a pretty solid release. I just wonder if my aging laptop will handle it or if this is the year for an overdue upgrade. Anyways, cheers again bud, you just saved me a bunch of arsing about!

Neil the named faces addition is for use in iLogic. You can use them to help constrain objects together (using iLogic). You can also use them to drive automated dimensioning in the drawing environment.

So awesome that you can lock hose lengths now! Sorry for asking this here but i wasnt sure where else to, is there some way you can utilise the flat pattern extents property in mm units in 2016? I've only managed to get It to work in cm. If not have they fixed it for later releases? Cheers!

The presets for holes that you can save is stored in the specific place "presets" in application options ->Files. Setting the same on multiple users will generate the same list...if lucky.
edit: Also set in the project file.

Previous framegen lengths were inaccurate when a double cut was applied to a single end. eg - a diagonal bracing member that was run into a corner, then trimmed.

is image masking just for art on a model? if we wanted to emboss and extrude an image we still need to draw line work for it?

Is any possibility to use named plane in constrains? For example (SOLIDWORKS has this function)

Our software vendor recommended Solidworks because he realized that an update to 2019 at Inventor was not worthwhile. He also said that many companies have already switched from inventor to solidworks or Rhino 3D, or use both. Many of my colleagues miss inventor because of the habit, but are happy about the new possibilities that make solidworks better than inventor. Rhino 6 has really succeeded VERY well, and it's really fun with it. Someone said that at Autodesk Inventor probably the Steve Jobs of the Inventor died, and that therefore there are no innovations. What we love about solidworks is solidworks visualize. The result is such good renderings that 90% of our customers could no longer tell whether it was a photograph or a 3D image. I like the face labeling- it will help new students keep orientation of something like a box that has slightly different dimensions. Great video thanks!

the issue with chroma key is, that jpg colour artifacts mess everything up. you'd need losslessly compressed or uncompressed image for it to work right....
