Biden, Stoltenberg Welcome World Leaders to NATO Summit

This week’s NATO summit in Washington was meant to present a united front against Vladimir Putin’s Russia, send a warning to China and show that in its 75th year, the alliance is as strong as ever. But it will be overshadowed by a series of crises for leaders.

While President Joe Biden is batting away questions about his fitness after a disastrous debate performance, French President Macron must turn to domestic affairs and a prolonged period of coalition-building to form the country’s next government.

What’s more, another NATO member, Hungary, has dispatched Prime Minister Viktor Orban to China for meetings with President Xi, after talks with Putin, angering allies. All the while, Ukraine continues to face bombardment from Russian forces, with missile attacks yesterday targeting sites across the country, including a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
