Are FASHION TRENDS Dead? Long Live TIMELESS STYLE?

As a person of a certain age, I will say that I feel that in past years the fashion industry was more successful in dictating fashion trends. So they could say maxi is in and mini is out. Or full pant legs are in and skinny is out. And women would gut their wardrobe to adapt to the trends. Now I think that women are more likely to hang on to what they love and choose from the trends what they want to add. I think that's a healthier perspective on trends and more sustainable!! Thanks for the video. It's something I've been thinking about.

I think with age comes a truer sense of what our individual style vibe is and frees us to embrace it.

Interesting because I often have that dilemma of deciding do I toss this piece away because I know it’s not currently in fashion even though I love the colour, cut, look etc. I think women need to make a stand and continue wearing pieces you love wether they’re trendy or not.

The lockdowns for this terrible pandemic have shifted fashion to more comfortable styles in clothes and footwear. I hope this particular trend is never reversed.

It’s a balancing act; the backbone of my wardrobe is classic, but I do love and add trends, I just choose them from the classic end of the spectrum, not the extreme end. For example, this season’s must have is a blue and white striped cotton or linen shirt, but it’s also a classic. I’m just avoiding the super-oversized ones, I don’t think they’ll have as much longevity as a slightly oversized, more classic fit.

So interesting how I just stumbled upon your channel in the feed that was on my screen. I have been having the exact same thought process which is that fashion has gone around & comes around so often that anything goes & it's just a " personal journey " of " fashion choice " not a " follow the trends "journey of forced fashion!!! Inspiration is always what keeps me excited about getting dressed everyday & how can I change it up, look & feel confident & interesting!
Thanks for sharing your fashion journey!!!

Exactly everything I feel! I’m much more relaxed and take more time with my buying to really see if the piece will work. A little update each season makes the old pieces feel new again! Love your videos 🦋🤗

Such a strong analytic piece Emily thank you! It really is personal isn’t it? If and when I engage with trends it’s usually accessories for me like a good leopard print scarf..so they can be dragged out again in a few years!! Age taught me something 😂... thanks as always ❤️❤️❤️

I’m also wondering when I got away from wearing favorites over and over, to having to have something new for every occasion.

Fashion trends are not dead in the systemic cultural level, but within one’s personal approach (if one chooses to go that route). I think it’s true for everyone that the older they get, the less they care about keeping up with trends because they know what they like. It’s more of an age or life experience thing, imo!

Yay good to see you drop another great video. I don't follow trends or waste money like I use to.

I now have a chic unique wardrobe thanks to you. Reading labels and getting quality pieces. Capsule wardrobe is complete 👌

Thank you!

It’s good to have a discussion about ‘timeless’ fashion. The women who wore floor length dresses thought they were ‘timeless’ and wore them for decades. Bustles were worn for years. Looking back we can question whether or not they were trends. Hip huggers were worn for a decade. Were they trends? Or were they timeless? We call things ‘timeless’ but would we wear the same thing in 20 yrs? Usually lapel sizes change, sometimes fitted, some times oversized. You can pick up a black blazer from the thrift store and clearly tell whether it is from the ‘80s or 90s. Is it a trend or timeless? Good to think about.

Emily. I really needed to hear your message today. As a 57-year-old woman, I have always loved fashion, but put it away, if you will, while I was raising my two girls! I’m now back in the game for the last five years, and I do find myself feeling like I won’t be ‘ in style“ if I am not buying each seasons trends, or at least one or two of them. The hard part is some of these fashion influencers will tell you that you need a classic style but then they will come ahead and bring in all of the new trends. It’s kind of confusing. I’m really on this search for my timeless style, and I have a pretty good idea what it is, so thank you for encouraging me today. Bless you! Plus, I have a young friend who is your doppelgänger.😆🥰

The best trend is wearing your clothing with confidence and a smile. And to me, that’s timeless. Feeling good in what you wear truly shows and can elevate a simple, basic look. Trends are definitely good for inspiration - those pieces that push you out of the norm, dip your toes so to speak, in something different, as long as you are confident in it and it makes you smile. Love your message. Always good reminders to be true to your own style. ❤️

Master of equilibrium, I agree, trends are an inspiration. We wanna look like the models because in the pic they seem to be happy in an ideal scenario, we can achieve that in our daily lives if we choose to wear what makes us feel good and comfortable

As another person of a certain age, I love creative fashion and style, but I feel like I can't get away with my favorite styles (read punk style), but I am feeling inspired to work on my basic wardrobe with touches that are more me.

I loved this video Emily. I really appreciate how you stressed that clothes should not define you, but you should use the clothing to express who you are. You rock it Emily. Thank you.❤❤❤

I agree totally, when I realized that trends accent your wardrobe but don’t take over your style and classic pieces was very empowering! Thanks for your inspiration love your channel Xx

I have always just worn what I liked but now and again there will be a “trend” that pops up that I actually am inspired by to put my own twist on it. I’m all about my own timeless classic styles. Something everyone knows me for is Flannels, t-shirts and sneakers all year around 😁

There was a time I felt like I needed to look a certain way but I have finally found comfortability in what I actually like. Plus becoming a mom makes it easier lol.
