“Selling is helping, not convincing.”

Can’t get simpler than that.

100%. Good selling is connecting customers to a solution that works FOR THEM, not taking their money and providing something they don’t need. Get to know your customers and find the ones you can help.

I really appreciate your approach, Simon. It goes against the conventional attitude that a salesperson needs to convince a customer to buy. No, they need to ask questions to find out how they can HELP. AWESOME!

My dad used to sell silicone-based rubber. He told me this story of when he was speaking with a buyer and none of his products fit their specs. He was fully aware of his competitors' products and highlighted the best fit for the buyer's needs, missing out on this one sale. From then on, the buyer tinkered with the specs widening tolerances wherever possible so there was always a product that they could buy from my dad.

I totally agree with this. When people see that we really care it catches their attention and causes them to even get to listen to us in the first place. I think most sales people fail because they are just out to sell so they go on and on talking to their prospects without even realising that the they aren't really listening to them

Thank you for your wisdom, Simon! I'm currently reading your book, Leaders Eat Last and I love how you tie business and compassion together. I also relate to you on the ADHD front. I'm not currently even in business myself, I just find your work inspiring.

To have a full evaluation or an assessment one must take 1.5-2 hours of their time to ask questions and hear individual’s feedbacks as every case is different in it’s own way. In the States this tool was created in such a way that allows clients to articulate from a stand point of how they feel, their mental status and daily needs. And the people who carry the role of asking these questions actually care about the client’s responses and take it into consideration. I think this approach is relevant to seller’s style. More questions allows people to elaborate and helps the interviewer to gain a better understanding the life client (s) lead as everyone comes from different circumstances. Thank you for bringing this up actually there are professions or people when ask how are you? Spend their 2 hours listening for the one’s reply 😊

Using this technique i have had 100% loyalty from clients, and been fired from almost every job i've ever had - regardless of the jump in sales for my employer.

This works only if the boss is ok with it. I have often been chastised for using this technique.
