THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I just received an email from our school superintendent who briefed us about the expectations of the teachers to use Zoom for the rest of this school year. What a blessing it was to click on YouTube and see your informative video! You certainly put this educator at ease. Stay safe-Stay Well-Keep posting:)

Hi Steve! Greetings from Bath (UK). I saw your tutorial when I was browsing, looking for additional support for getting to understand Zoom. I'm definitely a "digital immigrant", so using technology scares me witless! I've done some Teach English Online courses, and so I have the theoretical knowledge, but not the ability to seamlessly transfer this to an active lesson. I've been an inactive teacher for some time now (due to moving around the world with my husband's job), and was just getting back into teaching at a local foreign language school, when the dreaded "lockdown" started (23 March)! I rushed to do as many online courses as I could, and now I have all this knowledge, but not the courage to start using it... Thanks so much for the well-structured, informative tutorial you provided. I've saved the link so that I can keep revisiting it, until I'm ready to step into the online abyss! Thanks again. :)

I am technology professional who has just started my own company. After looking at many of the training videos provided by Zoom I decided to subscribe and address my unanswered questions by experimenting with the product. Your video answered many of my questions about the scheduling, starting, and in meeting workflow. THank you very much.

Hey Steve, my wife has been using Zoom for the last two weeks with her class at a local Vancouver college (shes the instructor). The challenges she has worked through are: 1) recommend that if you are teaching a larger group you use mute all participants once you get going otherwise everyones background noise overpowers your presentation or speaking. You need to setup some sort of way to have someone unmute. Can be done by teacher through chat or through video if class is small enough by putting hand up in video screen. 2) When sharing video you MUST turn on share sound (two radio buttons on the bottom of the share screen) before you run the video if you want sound. 3) Breakout rooms can be a great way if you have the class working on a group project and you need a 1:1 with a student. 4) Sharing documents is fairly easy, just gets tricky if you are trying to mark assignments or correct. You need common tools, programs or apps and file share via chat or email. File security can kick in and make file sharing tricky at times. 5) Highly recommend asking class to use earphones to lower background noises for students homes (others may be watching TV or doing other household chores or playing nearby) or to even hear your class attendees. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN NUMBER 1, Don’t forget to setup your home work place studio. Consider what your background is showing. Perhaps your dirty dishes, laundry or last nights TWO empty wine bottles ☹️ are not what you want to be projecting .... and also who else in your household might need to share that space, ie if your class is over several hours, perhaps there is somewhere better than dining room table if others need the kitchen and table. Also if you take a break mute your mic so you don’t have a hot mic moment 🙂. Look at all the new skills we are learning out of necessity!

Dear Mr. Dotto: Wow! You are the answer to my "prayer." I am an elected Precinct Committee Person (PCP) of the Multnomah Democratic party in Portland, Oregon (somewhere south of you) we just began to use Zoom during the COVID-19 emergency so we could still meet and get things done!
>> How fortuitous in your dedication to humanity that you are sharing your learning with the world.
>> I knew I liked Canada for a good reason!
No joking, thank you so so so much! And Mrs. Dotto, thank you for your appearance, too: teachers are the best, after all.
Respectfully,
Neil.

Thanks Steve! I'm a member of a local U3A and we used to meet weekly to help each other learn various things. Having had a look at Zoom and your video I think we can use it to keep up or social and intellectual engagement. Keep up your excellent work and optimism, the latter is one of the most important weapons to get us through this.

The backgrounds are really useful! For team meetings it can be a fun start, but also during this time that not always is the best spot in the house free, having the opportunity of putting a background to cover the real place, it's super useful!

I enjoy your bullet point, step by step(not taking for granted our supposed common sense) teaching. Thank you. I am a retired Special Needs Teacher of the basics: Math, Reading, Writing, Study Skills to prepare students to survive in these areas related to day to day life! So remote is good for me as I can mute if there is any behavior issues or other concerns . This allows me to focus on an individual student or parent without any disruption to others.

I am a teacher in Fl, thank you so much for this great video in this crazy time. You have eased some of the anxiety I am feeling about getting set up. Clear and easy to understand.

Thanks, Steve! You made this so clear and understandable. Not like most tech guys who just zip through things in 30 seconds & expect everyone to get it.

Loved it!!! I teach a foreign language at a local community college..and this past Spring we had to teach via ZOOM. With absolutely no experience in teaching anything online, I was thinking about NOT doing it. But, I mustered up the courage, got the help I needed from the college tech folks and so far have taught 3 courses via ZOOM. Your YouTube instructions have helped me immensely. I will be utilizing your suggestions in my next class which beings October 3rd. You have cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Again, Thank you. Harriette

I needed this, Zoom is so much easier to use than other conferencing tools. My wife Liana, who is also a teacher here in Scotland, is using it daily with her students. But you have showed us much more functionality within the software. Thank you Steve. Stay safe partner. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
