As a plumber, please clean the litter box and remove it from the bathroom when we need to work in there. They get in the way SO MUCH in small bathrooms and, when we repair the water hookups to the bathroom fixtures, the litter gets wet especially if it's all over the floor.

Plus cats don't like to do their business while we're working, so move the box somewhere accessible and peaceful while we work.

not sure if you know, but cats prefer and feel safer using cat litter boxes uncovered so they can see any attacks.

Even if the humans of the house hate it, cats definately prefer if it is in the part of the house where the cat spends the most time, so that they feel like thier territory is marked. Though not near thier food of course.

I live in a NYC apartment, very limited space, I recommend getting a litter box enclosure, mine was affordable about 100$ and very worth it, I place mine in the furthest corner of the living room, I put a floor lamp in that same corner with a statue of a cat and decorative pampas grass in a vase on top of the enclosure, instead of hiding it away its actually a crucial part of visual interest in my living room! Enclosures are also great because it provides more barrier between the litter dust and the room its in, most of the mess stays in the enclosure. I have washable throws that i use to protect the sofa and chair sides that are facing the litter area. Stay on top of vacuuming and scooping! No one ever even knows I own a cat when they come in, there is zero smell and my floors are litter free…….. except for that back corner but no one would walk back there anyway! 😆

Hi, I’m a cat behaviorist! I don’t recommend the bathroom because if you or guests close the door, the cat will be cut off from their litter box, and some cats won’t take kindly to that if they have to go. Also, not all cats will be okay with a cabinet or covered box. The most important thing is a larger box for kitty’s comfort (and aim), scoop often, use good litter, and air purifiers are your friend to combat litter dust and smells.

my cat refuses to poop anywhere but the entrance 😭 we tried moving the litterbox slowly and she just pooped where she wanted anyway 😭😭

edit: i know i used crying emojis but i’m actually not very upset about this, i appreciate all the advice though! my cat is a rescue who was initially very anxious. we tried various tricks and did all the recommended things to make her feel at home/safe and when she kept using that spot anyway, we just accepted that was where she felt safest for whatever reason and rearranged accordingly lol. we don’t really mind it. it’s just silly to me that her favorite place is the spot cliff listed first as a bad spot 😆

Hahha I also always put the litter box next to the toilet. My cat and I sleep in the bed together and when we wake up in the morning, we go pee at the same time 😂

My bathroom has no space for a litter box of any size. Too tiny. My apartment has a main living space, a tiny office, and a bedroom. I put the litter boxes in a corner in the office behind a shelf. The shelf walls off the space giving my kitty his own little private bathroom space and saving us from seeing his business area. It also allowed me to get a big automatic litter box (litter robot 3) so I don’t have to come home to bad smells.

Before that, my kitty sometimes didn’t bury and so coming home from work in the winter meant 💩💨

Watching these videos is what gave me the idea for the shelf wall. It also gave me inspiration on how to adapt my place to my bf moving in. He shares the office with the cat and I got set up in the bedroom in a way that worked out very nicely!
