Pray, Serve, Evangelize - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, the Gospel of Mark is a fascinating literary work. St. Mark seems to write in a breathless, staccato, even primitive manner, but the deeper you look, the more his Gospel appears iconic. He presents scene after scene in a very concentrated way, telling us some rather deep truths about the faith. Our Gospel for today from the first chapter is a good example of this. We see on clear display here what Pope Benedict described as the three essential tasks of the Church: it worships God, it serves the poor, and it evangelizes.

Dearest Bishop Barron,
My purpose of praise and worship in my life is related to singing raising my hands dancing, and praying. It's to create an intimate connection between me and the Lord Jesus Christ by allowing Him to speak directly to my heart which draws me nearer to Him. The closer I drew, the more mercy and compassion I felt toward everyone around me, even those who were hard to love. God gives peace to my soul, peace from the burden of my sins, and peace amid the burdens that come to me through others' sins. Every time I pray, I always feel the presence of God, even in my evangelization as I bring the good news of Jesus Christ. And for the salvation of the souls, especially those who haven't experienced volunteering services from their congregation or community and have zero faith in action. The holy Gospel and the Bible scripture unashamedly declare that God is after the glory of his name and I desire to see God's glorification as well. Bishop, I have been praying for you and all the priests because, without you and the priest in our parish, I wouldn't be experiencing God's presence in the sacraments. Please, pray for Father Raj and the Dregers family. God bless you all.
