Amazon announced in 2017 that the streaming platform Prime Video had partnered with J.R.R Tolkien's estate to create a multi-season Lord of the Rings series. The first season which is set to be eight episodes long will cost $465 million. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is a lifelong fan of J.R.R Tolkien. He was directly involved in acquiring the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise. His son is an ardent fan of the franchise and didn't want any sub-par production soiling the reputation of the great J.R.R Tolkien.
