As a Dane, your pronunciation needs work obviously and you got a heavy American accent, I would suggest finding a Danish person to chat with in Danish if you want to iron out the pronunciation and accent.

That said, good work and I greatly encourage you to keep learning Danish, it is a really fun language once you start understanding the deeper aspects of it, as an example, a lot of Danish comedy is is based around subtle changes in how things are said and phrased.

I have a warning for you if you travel to Denmark, if you don't demand that Danes speak in Danish to you we will change to English immediately when we hear that someone isn't near to native speaker level of proficiency, Danish people are generally fluent in English and find it easier to switch to English than to try and decipher foreign accents. I am warning you so you don't get discouraged if you come here in the hope of learning to speak Danish only to find everyone speaks English to you automatically.

Hej, Engelsk speaker here, been teaching myself Danish for over 5 years now, using Duolingo and other online resources.
How's the Danish going nowadays?

My only piece of 'advice' is that the way you pronounce the phrases reminds me of how I would pronounce any German I see written down. I don't speak a word of German at all, but i just read it as it looks with my best german accent.
Danish is almost never pronounced as it would look to the average native English speaker like you and I.
It takes a while to get used to the pronounciation. It took me around 3-4 years to finally be able to properly pronounce the words 'brød' and 'brødet' (meaning 'bread' and 'the bread') Now that I'm 5 years into Danish, I can somewhat figure out the pronunciation of nearly everything I read.

I suggest listening to words over and over on duolingo, as well as google translate and other things, to help you understand how it should sound.
Unfortunately, having an American accent can be a bit of a curse when learning a language because it can easily manage to poke through. I've got a very dull sounding Irish accent (not too thick like most would imagine) so I'm able to pull off a pretty good Danish accent with no Irish sound poking through.

Pronunciation is key in Danish. If you can't pronounce the word right, you haven't learnt the word.

Tbh once you master pronouncing the '-ød' sound, like in 'rød', then it's pretty easy from there lamo
If you're still learning Danish, keep it up!

I was at a pretty shit standard of Danish in early 2018, but I went over there for the 2nd time and managed to speak to the cashiers in shops in Danish without them switching to English.

I am also from Denmark and i would say keep it up, danish is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn. But if you keep up this hard work you will be speaking danish in no time :)

I like your video. I also follow that guy and saw his video. His German has improved. I'd also like to learn Danish. But I'm trying to learn German first. I'm a native Spanish speaker and I know French (and English of course). Don't worry, I'm not offended at all because you have your likes and I have mine. I encourage you to keep learning Danish because it's good and if you want, Spanish and French. They're cool too, at least for me xD. I almost forgot, I've been using Duolingo. It's helped me and I recommend it but I also recommend that you use other resources because some Duolingo phrases are weird like "the bear drinks beer" or something like that. Nobody would say that in real life. Only about a cartoon maybe haha.

Hilsen fra Danmark :D I'm very impressed with your danish :) i have a french friend who wanted to learn danish and i'm learning french at the same time so it's a good way for us to help each other when we use apps :) other than duolingo we also use Babbel and Memrise :)
one little thing you need to focus on your g's and o's :) "o" is not "u" or "oo" :P

I see myself a lot in you. I'm also an American who fell in love with Danish and Denmark. Danish pronunciation is hard, Danish has a lot of silent letters and soft letters in the middle or the end like "siger" sounds like "see-r" with r pronounced like when the Brits say their r's . Danish accents sound deep and flat. But keep repeating the words slowly by hearing and you'll get the hang of it ;) that is how I've done it and succeeded if you can't find anybody. Held og lykke! (good luck!)
