I think Harris is just hedging his bet. he can’t come out and say that Javy’s time has run out because if by some miracle, he is able to turn his career around, Baez never forget being dogged like that. The most obvious characteristic of Baez is that he has an ego.

I expect he will be on a short leash. I expect action to be taken if he continues to fall short but Harris has to leave open the possibility that he goes back to playing at an MLB level

Going into year 4 of a 6 year contract, it’s a make or break year for Baez. They’re only giving him a chance because of the financial investment. But if he doesn’t have AT THE VERY LEAST 10 HRs by the all star break it’s time to move on.

I have enjoyed this improbable run to the playoffs as much as most Tiger fans - it was amazing. That said, this was with Avila’s hired manager, and with mostly Avila’s players. I hope Harris does well when he starts making serious moves at some point, but the guy comes off as a double-speaking weasel, and inspires zero confidence. Here’s hoping….

Detroit could have won it if they resolved the Baez issue. What's the difference between a Detroit team making the playoffs getting eliminated in playoffs and never making playoffs ?? None!!! baez tork and others need to play winter ball and work on their hitting team struck out too much in playoffs you are right baez is a bust need a right hand power hitter with a decent average, and a good right hand starting pitcher if you are struggling work on your craft baez is good defensively, but a terrible hitter

Here’s my suggestion. There is no way Detroit will eat Baez’s contract, but there is also no way you put him on the field. Offer the man an extension, with the proviso that he goes to the front office to be a special assistant. His knowledge of the game and the respect he has garnered in the clubhouse is invaluable. Think outside the box and turn a deficit into a positive.
