This was a monster hit in '73 for us children of the 60's and 70's. Good grove, easy lyrics, and a reason to dance close at the after game party!!

He's an old friend of mine. I worked with him - he was the original Che in Evita... he started off as a blues drummer when he was 15/16... he was a massive pop idol in the 70s - he still gigs. Original renaissance man!

That was in 1973 when it was released That is how good the 70s was because of so many styles that were all good at the same point in time .David is a from England and he basically was a 1 hit wonder in the US and did much better in Britain but still remembered

This song is an homage to early rock and roll. James Dean was an iconic movie star and symbol of 1950's teenage rebellion.

David Essex was a huge heartthrob in the 70's in Australia and the U.K. He released some great songs.

Hey Guys, Much love...Essex wrote this song on his bass guitar, which helped give it a menacing tone. He wanted to write something different, and succeeded. David Essex wrote this to play at the end of the 1973 movie That'll Be The Day, where he played a working-class, aspiring rocker in pre-Beatles England. Essex spent much of the '60s making unsuccessful recordings, but did far better as an actor, landing the role of Jesus in the London production of Godspell in 1971. Thanks Guys, Great song, Blessings

I can't believe you reacted to David Essex, he was my first crush, his smile and twinkling eyes floored me. He was also an actor and appeared in British films, Stardust and That'll be the Day about the rise and fall of a rock star.

If you like poetry, try out the DOORS. Their lead singer went to college to major in poetry, but thankfully he became a rock star instead. Try Riders on the Storm first

Everyone loved David Essex in the UK in the 70's, he was massive & had quite a few hits.
Check out 'Hold me close', 'Gonna make you a star', or 'Silver dream machine'.

How about some Steppenwolf, "Born to be wild". Motorcycle ridin' music! Definitely a rock classic.

Would love to see you react to INXS “Never Tear Us Apart”, “Need You Tonight” or “New Sensation”… the lead singer apparently hung himself at age 37. So sad! And also Shania Twain. I ask everyone to react to her and haven’t seen anyone do her yet. From Wiki “She has sold over 100 million records, making her the best-selling female artist in country music history and among the best-selling music artists of all time.”

This was still considered rock. Rock genre encompasses many different types of songs. There are so many different sub-genres under the rock umbrella. Just some examples would be: Glam, New Wave, Hair Metal, Heavy Metal, Southern Rock, Punk, Thrasher metal, death metal, folk-rock, grunge, pop rock, bubblegum rock, classic rock, the list is endless. So saying that this song isn’t rock is a mistake. Never underestimate the power of rock and the many ways and styles there are of rock, it is ever changing and all encompassing. That’s the beauty of rock there is no one kinda or one definition of rock.

A group from the seventies called The Sweet is a glam rock band, and I'm certain you would love them.
