Fixing my Squeaky Staircase

My staircase is broken! One of the stairs seems to have cracked right half in two. In this video, I glue the crack shut, and add some support below the stair tread to stop it from happening again.

Glad to hear someone else using some proper language when receiving a diy injury

I've (ahem, we have) just bought my (our) own home. (Actually our 3rd, but was renting for the past decade, boo hiss). We have a stairway with 2 90• bends, and just about every tread squeaks. So here I am, checking out YouTube to find solutions to remedy, and what you say is absolutely spot on. Your problem is - I don't think - my problem, but what I am looking for is some confidence to DIY. I've already tackled a bunch of smaller jobs, but this one feels pretty big, and my wife is even saying "just get a carpenter" - but I have a few tools, and want to buy some more, so - watch this space, squeaky!

I look up videos like this quite often because of home renovations but I never subscribe to them. I like the occasional f bombs in this one so im hitting that button! very relatable

That was clever. I just got into fixing my home. Ive always been a DIY guy. Ive rebuilt a few small engines, car engines, did the whole fast and furious turbo stand alone engine management on a Talon, but wood work is a WHOLE different ball game. With cars, everything is already made for you. All you need to learn is the torque specs. You do not need to manufacture any of the parts yourself. Maybe a file or a grinder for the piston ring gaps but thats about it.

Wood working requires a lot of creative thinking and problem solving that takes a long time to build up the intuition that will lead to correct solutions which provide adequate results.

You know this is a proper job:
1) Swearing when injured
2) Body part flash (belly in this case, arse crack is also acceptable)
3) Left the job unfinished for way too long
😅👍

You should be on TV teaching young generation how to do things around the house. Thank you!

I want to know who the three dillholes are who didn't like the video. I'll be keeping my creaking stairs creaking until I no longer have teenagers living here but will revisit this video once they're out of the house :)

you couldn't just replace the broken
Having so much pro equipment to work with wood and ending up using glue and wedges to fix it in an ugly way seems very weird

Why do you have to swear when you do your work?
