A better NASA Mars Mission using SpaceX Starship and a new ship as well!

In this, my third and final episode about NASA's plan to explore Mars using Starship, we will explore a better way to get the job done.
It's called Mars Direct 3. And if you add nuclear propulsion, it may be the best plan yet!

It's encouraging that intelligently thought out mission alternatives are being studied. Thank you Jordan and welcome back sunglasses!

This was an enjoyable watch, Angry. Keep making videos like this.
This Mars mission profile looks really sustainable.

I've always been a fan of the mini Starship idea 👍👍👍

I was a Mission Controler on Magellan (at Venus) and one adaptation they came up with after the mission was Aerobraking. The craft was not designed for that but by careful navigation, they managed to circularise a highly eccentric orbit with very little fuel. I have always wondered why it has not been used more. It is much easier to deorbit from a circular orbit and a minimum of fuel is needed to insert to a highly eccentric one. It should be considered as part of the tool chest of tricks and can often be used along with other methods including nuclear power.

SpaceX will probably have sent half a dozen Starships to Mars before they even begin to think about sending people.

Space tugs are the way to go!!! One tug in earth orbit, one tug in Moon orbit, and one tug in Mars orbit. Space tug only used to push traveling space craft toward its destiny.

Another thought provoking report! Thank you!

I lean more towards Buzz Aldrin's Mars Conveyor. Build the ship in Earth orbit, strap on a nuclear propulsion system, bring several small landers along which would require less fuel. Starship could be sent ahead as habitat modules with no intention of a return trip to Earth eliminating a lot from the equation. But before anything other than an initial exploratory mission (ala Apollo) we should work out the tech for survival (gravity, radiation, food, oxygen, water) and utilizing what's on the planet (assuming it is there) to create habitats and fuel. And working out the whole rotational artificial gravity thing would be a good idea too, to reduce the effects of microgravity (assuming it actually works)

The more thought and solutions put forward for this effort, the greater chances of success. I love this approach @AA, vs negativism.

The spaceship + mars direct combo is brilliant! Nice

This is the content I love you for.
I've been a follower since the beginning, and these kinds of videos have been far apart lately.
Thank you for this Christmas gift! 🥳

Good stuff J. I would think portable nuclear power plants are a better way to go than solar panels. Making a lot of progress in this field.

The solar farms can be answered easily. We don't need them. We already have mini nucleur reactors that are the size of semi trailers that we were going to use to power our moon base anyways. These are constructed out of different materials and put together in such a way that they are safer then anything thats been made before and have almost 0% of meltdowns. They are also modular so if you need more energy add another one.

Thank you, this is great stuff. Mars is my specialty, and some would say my home planet. This is a very astute plan! I ALSO think as soon as possible, we should get the fuel depot going on Phobos. Make it like a truck stop with a diner and everything. Why not? Great days are ahead.

Happy new year Jordan! Early viewer about 20k I think. Love the way your channel has evolved.
