Tribute to my first bl movie ever that I watched back in 2007. I was so obsessed with it that I even wrote a fanfic for it. The movie ended at open ending but don't ever read the novel. I did and I regretted it. It just the same as MODC ;') IDK why the author decided to kill off one of them after they finally got together like WHY???

If you haven't watch the movie, dont hesitate and watch it. The OST are awesome (Mayday sing the ost like WAHHH) and even the instrumentals are so good. Dont even mention the actors, they are brilliant. The link to subbed movie is under pinned comment below :)

Just watched this movie and I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I supposed I was expecting the boys to be together but it's really about unrequited love. Shane doesn't want to lose his best friend but clearly his romantic feelings are towards the girl. The girl was a character I disliked a lot because she knew Jonathan loved Shane and it just looked petty that she went after him after being rejected. I dislike open endings but one thing was clear is that Shane replied to 'you are my best friend' to Jonathan 'I love You' so to me the best outcome for Jonathan is that he finds closure on this and moves away from both, move on and hopefully fall in love with someone that falls in love with him. I hate to think he remained on the sideline watching Shane and Carrie build their lives and never pursuing an independent life of his own.

Their names and the OST together have a hidden message. In the movie they also hinted that. What the writer did was really brilliant tbh.
Cheng Hsing (正行 in Chinese) represents the planet (行星) and Shou Heng (守恒) is the Sun（恒星). The planet always revolve around the Sun. It's science.
And the song Mayday sing in the movie have a line like this, "我不转弯". It literally translates as "I'm not turn around".
This is Cheng Hsing's way of escaping from the inherent orbit, breaking away from the boundaries of friends, breaking the law and be together with Shou Heng. Even if that means he will be destroyed, like everything that burns up when it gets close to the Sun.

I know this is over a decade late but i just finished watching this with my housemate. We were a bit confused about how it ended, later concluding that Shane assured Jonathan that he still doesn't wanna lose their friendship despite not being able to reciprocate Jonathan's feelings after his confession, and that Carrie getting out of the car meant that she was who Shane chose. But i decided to go watch the very beginning of the movie, which technically transpired after the ending when the three of them are seated with Carrie in the middle. The camera pans over to Jonathan, who looks at the camera for quite a while, with a look on his face that screams confusion. I see it as him still thinking about his two "options", when he suddenly hears young Jonathan's voice calling out to him. He turns towards that voice, stands up and goes towards it. Which then leads to when they were young and the story begins. The way Shane smiled after hearing that voice, the look on his face that finally bore some peace, and walking towards it, is, to me, what made it clear that he actually chose Jonathan. Afterall, the title is Eternal Summer. Wikipedia shows that Shane's Chinese name means the star, Jonathan the planet, and Carrie the comet. Shane is the star/sun around which Jonathan revolves, and Carrie is the comet that passes by and changes things. Eternal Summer to me means the sun will shine bright on Jonathan's world forever. At least that's how I want to believe it ended. ❤️

THIS VIDEO IS MAJESTIC!! The ending was bitter sweet for me. I took it as, Shane’s “you are really my best friend” is a validation to Jonathan after he asked Shane if they will still be besties if he told him his secret… It was acceptance.. that he is okay that his bestie loves him. Although bitter coz I wanted them to be together and ditch Carrie out coz hello dude they had sex already and Shane enjoyed it. He must loved Jonathan The way they made love was sooo heartfelt.

Just watched the film on Netflix. Both actors are cute. The music is sad but lovely. The ending is hurtful. I'm not sure what he means as in u really are my best friend. Maybe he just meant I liked u all along too even though I knew u didn't choose to stick by me and probably didn't want to. That's hurtful too. Feeling like this friendship is one sided only to find out the person loves u anyways. So whether as a lover or best friend the genuine love and care is still there and always will be.
