“The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.” Isaiah 50:4


This is the experience of the James River Church Leader when he spoke to John Lindell at that Steak n Shake back in 1991. Without knowing how to speak a word in season to John who was weary we'd have never had James River Church as it is today and the hundreds of thousands of individuals who have been impacted by James River Church around the world would have evaporated like a wisp of smoke.


Being prepared to speak a word in season to those who are weary is more important than we may realize. Who knows what hangs in the balance of a simple conversation?

I pray that Pastor John's statement over our Church in this sermon come true. That we be known as a people who lift one another up. That we do not judge people on the facade of what we see on the outside, but ask God to give us faith, faithfulness, and the attitude of the Holy Spirit, who is the Great Encourager. May we be the kind of people that would speak words of life to the people we encounter.

Wasn’t John just talking about the miracle of being healed of cancer a few weeks ago? And now we hear that he has cancer again and needed surgery? Sounds less like a miracle and more like every day life.
