Using more than 4GB of RAM on Windows XP 32bit

This video shows how to get up to 64GB of RAM on Windows XP 32bit.
It's usually not possible, as the 32bit architecture is limited to 4GB, but it's possible to use a technology called Physical Address Extension (PAE) to get all your memory.
Be warned you may have some bugs and a performance penalty when doing it. It's completely reversible though, so you can test and see if it's worth it.

TEXT TO COPY TO THE STARTUP OPTIONS FILE:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin

STEPS:
1. Download the files from the link above
3. Go to Control Panel\Performance and Maintenance\System, go to the tab Advanced, press Settings under Startup and Recovery and click Edit. Then, replace the text after [operating systems] with the text above.
4. Reboot and choose the Windows XP 64G option
5. If all goes well, you should have all your memory showing up. If so, return to the settings from the step 3 and remove the last line.

I also tried this patch on a Dell Optiplex 780, and when I attempt to boot into the version that recognizes more RAM, it crashes and doesn’t boot into Windows XP. Only if I enter Safe Boot does it allow me to access Windows XP and recognize the full 8 GB of RAM from my two 4 GB memory modules. I need your assistance to avoid having to use Safe Boot.

Actually, the tutorial is well done, and the Amiga music is appropriate for the topic, i knew one of the songs... so... I did this on my real XP computer: a P5B Deluxe motherboard with 6GB of ram. As soon as the computer boots and I select the patched OS, the screen goes black, stays black forever... notice however that if I do the same procedure in a Virtual Box XP it works perfectly.

Or make a clean install of Windows Server 2003. If incompatible drivers are found, the memory can be limited with the parameter /MAXMEM=3072. I'd keep the boot menu options, but set the timeout equal to 2 or 3, so that you can press down quickly and make another choice.

I have tried it but for some reason it says that ntoskrnl is missing, but when i boot onto the normal boot entry it works normally, but without more RAM

I did this on an HP Compaq Pro 6305 SFF PC running Windows XP with 4GB of ram.

Why do we need more memory capabilities in such ancient OS? Even 1 GB is more than sufficient for it. I have an old laptop designed for vista and it could run windows 7 too without lagging. But things changed after windows 10 came into the picture. So i am planning to install xp into it with 3 GB RAM.
