CHIBNALL WOULD CHANGE THINGS ABOUT HIS ERA! | DAVID BRADLEY TALKS RETURN! | Doctor Who News!

Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.

Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.

A series of special episodes of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who will air to celebrate the programme's 60th anniversary. The episodes were written by Russell T Davies, and will be broadcast on BBC One in November 2023, preceding the following fourteenth series. David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials.

The three specials were directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley and Chanya Button respectively. Filming moved from Roath Lock Studios to Wolf Studios once Bad Wolf became a co-producer of the series; filming commenced in May 2022, and was complete

David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials. Yasmin Finney joined the cast for the anniversary, to portray a character named Rose. Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King and Karl Collins are also set to return as Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and Shaun Temple, respectively.

On 29 July 2021, the BBC announced that Chris Chibnall, who served as executive producer and showrunner of the series for the Thirteenth Doctor, would depart the series after a run of specials in 2022. In the BBC press release, Chibnall is quoted as saying: "I wish our successors - whoever the BBC and BBC Studios choose - as much fun as we've had. They're in for a treat!" The future of the programme was first teased by Piers Wenger on 25 August 2021, when he said an upcoming change for Doctor Who would be "radical".

On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005–2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand.

Phil Collinson returned to the show as producer, having previously produced episodes from 2005–2008. Davies confirmed by March 2022 that production had begun at Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff. William Oswald is also editing for the new series.

The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the fictional protagonist of the BBC science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. The Fourteenth Doctor is portrayed by Scottish actor, David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.

Within the series narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.

Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor

I love it how even AFTER his run at show-runner, bro is still finding ways to NEVER elaborate the things he says/ writes down

He said he'd change some things. Didn't expect that would include the programme's ENTIRE past!

With a massive amount of respect to William Hartnell, David Bradley at the 1st Doctor is such a good move in the Whoniverse. To see him come back in the series and see where his life goes, especially now with Gatwa at the new Doctor, would be such a joy.

I'd also change a lot of his run if I could.

David Bradley returning as the first Doctor would be very welcome.

In all honesty, I think David Bradley should return more than any other actor as the Doctor. Atleast in the 60th.

As much as I'd love Smith or Eccelston or McGann to return Having David Bradley return as the 1st doctor makes the most sense.

It's the 60th anniversary and doing one without the original doctor would just be a missed opportunity of massive proportions. I'd go as far as to say he needs to be there.

We don't want him back anyway if we never have another chibnall episode it will be too soon

I'm not a big fan of David Bradley's interpretation but I like that we have a TV actor who just *is* the First Doctor in the same way that e.g. Paul McGann is the Eighth Doctor. I'd like to see it happen with 2 and 3 as well, maybe with Michael Troughton and Tim Treloar.

Chibnall needs to write a book like RTD's writers tale

This isn't really breaking news. Moffat and RTD have also said they would change some things if they could, as is the case with any creative. Makes sense.

Also while I'm excited for RTD2, because he is coming back it seems EVERY showrunner is now going to be asked if they will come back in the future and like... thats gonna become quite tiring

I didn’t mind the timeless children stuff, didn’t even series 12 or flux. Yes it was rushed as fuxk, but I didn’t kind it. Think Chibnall nailed past monsters

With David Bradley, it varies to me. Depends how he’s directed. Sounded like a mondasian cyberman in twice upon a time. Granted he doesnt quite sound like hartnell but he felt
More in line with what the character is in power of the Doctor

The man has left the show and it still slightly annoys me that everything the guy seems to say about the show sounds like a particularly half hearted, generic PR spiel

Many people would probably have preferred if Chibnall had not taken over, as his era lacked a clear vision and featured numerous underdeveloped ideas that didn't prioritize the characters. Instead, it felt like a remix of previous eras that relied on nostalgia, but ultimately lacked substance. And don't get me started on the timeless children!

Bradley's 1 is fine alone but its not the 1st Doctor in any non superficial way and I find it hilarious there are people claiming he's super simular to hartnell etc.

The best change Chinballs could make would be not to take the job in the first place!!!

Bill Hartnell looked and spoke like someone who had a pint of bourbon ready at all times and would talk about the Great War without any prompting.

What about the huge plot holes just to get to end that Chibs wanted, is most of DW universe missing still or what?

Best thing he could have changed was never to have turned for work in the first place.

I hope Chibnall never does doctor who again.

I am glad that as of now he has no plans. Hopefully it stays that way.

He would have probably doubled down on his stories....
