She literally did an amazing thing by volunteering, and chose to take a picture to remember it in 30 years or to show her family and friends back home the relationship she had with the kid she had helped. Why be so judgey? I have tons of photos from my service year, it's memmories and moments, and it didn't make it any less meaningful.

Isn't that Stacy Dooley in the picture?, she went there for Children In Need, or Comic Relief the Charity that raises millions from UK donations each year. She was asked to go and do a piece of film for the charity to raise awareness.

Before you tell people what and what not to do on their volunteering service abroad you should know that their organizations also tells them what to do. They have rules and they follow them. They were given permission to take those pictures. She put a heart on that child to protect it. What should she do? Act like that moment didn't exist? You all act like they go to Africa to take pictures while you have no idea what they are doing behind those pictures. Try volunteering yourself, you'll know more. 🙄🙄🙄

The issue is not that the woman volunteering took a photo with a child she was helping, the issues is that she feels the need to post it and puts a child's face all over the internet. She can take a photo to show to friends and family but she shouldn't post them online

It’s extremely ungrateful to be judgmental and accusatory towards foreigners volunteering in their time, energy, money and efforts towards economically impoverished and non-industrialized countries with corrupted governments, just for the sake of nuanceI had to suffer through reading a bunch of obnoxious “intersectionality” obsessed articles accusing volunteers of having a narcissistic, colonizing and racially motivated savior complex simply for documenting their work, can we stop it with moral inconsistency and asymmetry? practice what we preach, if this is about the consent of using children for photos to post then their parents should’ve either give their consent or withheld their consent.

she at least coulda been low-key… helping out isn’t an excuse to take pictures and show everyone you’re so sweet and do so much for the world.. it’s definitely wrong she did that😂

But it can inspire to other people to do the same, also it shows is possible, is not weird, is not dangerous. I think the picture is a good idea.
