Prince Nymph - Tungsten bead - McFly Angler Fly Tying Tutorials

The Prince Nymph is one of those flies that have been around for a long time, and still seem to be effective. They dont resemble anything in particular, however they can be used for a wide range of bug imitations. I like tying these small, for my local rivers and streams, however I have seen them tied up to size 10. If you do choose to tie these larger, than make sure and up the size of you bead and add some more peacock hurl.

These should be in every fishermans box. I always have a few prince nymphs, pheasant tails, and zebra midges in my boxes no matter what trout stream I am fishing.

Another pattern that is tried and proven over the years. A couple of Guides I know tie them with black or brown wings and chartreuse tails. Thanks Shawn!!

I like your version of the Prince. A little "heftier" than a lot of commercial versions I've seen. Planted rainbows seem to love this fly and I've always had good success with it for planters and hold-overs. Good one!

Great timing, I just went to Duranglers for my license and some beads for tying the prince!

A trick for those goose biots to make it easier. Just tie the wings facing the other direction. Cut your tag ends. Then bend them back over and give a few wraps and whip finish. Give it a try. You might find it, to work better and not let loose on the wings.

Great tutorial! If I may make a suggestion though: for the peacock herl I like to fold it in half around the thread so the tie-in point is at the middle of the herl... it makes a little fatter body, and almost no wasted herl. I like the amount of weight you put on this fly, removes the need for split shot... this makes a great anchor fly for a Burke rig!

Just catching up on some video's. I hate to have to tell you here but I have no other way of getting in touch with most of you guys. Most of the emails don't show up to leave a private message. Anyway, My wife passed away 4/23. It's been a long time coming but it doesn't make it any easier. All the best, Sean
