If you then close both the spreadsheet and the Word document, what are the steps to reopen the Word file and have the Excel data updated? I found through trial and error, I have to open the linked spreadsheet first, open the Word file and answer No to the prompt to update the linked data, right-click the embedded spreadsheet, and click Update Link. If I do anything else, an error message will appear and the linked object disappears in Word. This is an obtuse workaround--I should just be able to answer yes to the prompt to update the linked spreadsheet when I open the Word file. Any thoughts on this?

If im creating a table like this and linking it into word is there a way for it to not transfer over a block if i leave said block blank?

Is there any way to establish the opposite link? Using data/text in a Word document to update a cell in an Excel document? (Or perhaps a link in both directions so no matter where you update the date it syncs back to the other?)

In my case the value is not updated automatically, I have to right click into word, and select uptate link :/

Doesn't work on office online :( you need an add-in for office online. I tried out "AnalysisPlace", it worked fairly well.

I tried this and my MS Word document is not updating. I have also verified the Update Link feature is enabled which it is and the Word Document is still not updating. (DOCX)
