i switched from 1080 to 4k when my monitor died.. The best choice I ever made! It is like moving from 800x600 to 1080p again

Just a reminder, there's nothing wrong with gaming at 1080p. My husband is on a 900p monitor on a GTX-1070 and having a blast. If you have the hardware for it 1440p is nice, but if you don't you're really not missong some kind of massive life-changing improvement.

Me over here considering downgrading back to 1080p to extend the life of my 3070 because gpu prices are just stupid.

1440p is my personal pref for gaming. Obviously 4k is a better res but it takes so much more power to render games at that resolution that unless you have the current absolute top of the line card, you're probably not gonna be able to play anything on high settings.

Whereas 1440p is just enough to increase fidelity over 1080p noticably, while not being nearly as demanding so that you can play on Ultra or High Settings for much longer

It's very nuanced. For competitive gamers it makes way more sense to stay on 1080p for the extra frames and drop in frame time. I am faceit level 10 in CS, and 240 Hz is the default for most of us. With alot even upgrading to 360 or 540 at this point. I have a 1440p monitor that I use for scenic games, because it absolutely excels there. But I would not trade the frame clarity and fps for extra pixels.

While i believe you should game at 1440p if you have the money and hardware, it's absolutely fine to game in 1080p with a 1440 capable card. It just means your setup will stay relevant for longer.

If it's a competitive shooter or an unoptimized single player game, I'll take the higher refresh rate over a higher resolution. I have a 1440p 360hz oled and it looks amazing, but sometimes I trade the image quality for a smooth experience, anything below 120 frames feels choppy to me.

I love my 144hz 1080p monitor. 1080p is great, you just need 100+hz

it also really depends on what you're trying to do. if you play solo games where visuals are more important that fps 1440p is great. but if you play something like cs where fps is king then 1080p is still great

Reminds me of when I upgraded from a 720p 45fps monitor with a 1050 2gb to a 4k monitor on 1440p with a 3060 it was like heaven

As someone having both 4k and 1440p side by side, the people saying you can see pixel at 1440p are sitting too close.

Or just wrong monitor size for 27inch and below 1440p is great, as for 32 and above 4k would be better but it also depend on how far you sit from monitor.

honestly the biggest jump i had was IPS to OLED rather than resolution.

I can't wait to upgrade my monitor. It's already a 1440p monitor. But at only 60hz. I got it for free, so I'm not complaining one bit. But going from 60hz to 240hz is gonna be absolutely insane!

Technically it's just better resolution. You get more fps in 1080p screens, that's why they are the go-to in competitive gaming.

Wouldn't using a 1080p 60hz monitor offer better stability? Allocating the rest of the GPU resources to handle higher graphics settings while maintaining a steady 60 FPS in 1080p sounds like a win to me.

1080p is fine for gaming even if the graphics card is a beef at 1440p.
