FIRST EVER SOTA activation | Summits on the Air

I finally got around to activating my first summits on the air peak! On 3rd March 2021, myself and Justin VK7TW activated SOTA summit, Collins Cap (VK7/SC-006) for 8 points.

We had a great day and a great highlight was hearing the USA on 15m. Unfortunately no contact was made, but still plenty of contacts across VK.

Interested in SOTA? Have a go! It's a lot of fun!

Nice View. 5 years living in Brisbane and didn't have the change to go for a climb. By then, I didn't know anything bout radio hobby. Now I enjoying the hobby here in Spain going around different summits. Hopefully someday when I get back there to visit friend I may trying on sota spot. Meanwhile I will enjoy your sota activation. Cheers!

1. Congratulations on your first SOTA summit. 2. That may be the "Switzerland of the South", but it doesn't look like Switzerland. It is, however, beautiful scenery. 3. Looks like you guys had fun. that is what amateur radio is all about. 73.

Well Done Hayden, I did Collins Bonnet and Mt Wellington before I came down to VK0. Might be able to work you from down here some time on HF

Gud show ! Hayden and Justin! would have liked to have seen some cw action. from there great looking summit. and gorgeous views/scenery. Funny thing is a friend of mine and I chase sota/pota. more for the fun than points. etc. and he's about 90 miles North of me. so when we chat I always sign. as the Station from "Down under" but you guys have me beat that's for sure on that moniker. thanks ever so much and GL with future activations will keep an ear/eye out for them 72/73 from "Up Above" de Ellis WA1RKS

Very entertaining. Wish I had started into ham radio when I lived in Colorado. I think there are 50-ish peaks over 14, 000 ft (4267 m) there.

Another great video. I've been doing SOTA for 10 years but I still haven't got to the 1000 points Mountain Goat status.
I'm hoping to get it later this year.

Great Job Hayden, not sure I would carry my camera like you did, you are a lot younger lol. I will stick to my DJI Action I think, also will be doing 3 SOTA's Tues, Wed, and Thursday this week.

Awesome vid! Got me even more excited to upgrade my license and get on HF. I live in Portland, OR so I couldn’t help but notice the shirt. Have you been over here before?
