First-Time SOTA Activation in Wyoming

I am from a rural area in western Wyoming. While visiting family there this summer (2022) Sandy and I took a half day to hike to the top of a numbered peak and put it on the air with our ham radio. This is an area where I've spent a lot of time, especially riding snowmobiles in the winter. The views were spectacular and very familiar. Neither of us were on air long due to our tight schedule, but it was great to get away and enjoy the outdoors for a short time.

I think that is plenty of justification to petition the USGS to rename it Sandy Peak. Tell 'em I said it was okay.

Sure do miss that part of the country.

Wow I didn't know there were still areas that have not been activated yet that are accessible, that is. great that Sandy got to be the first one to go down on record as the first to do so kudos ! Sandy. even tho we did not get tosee or hear it. my only critique is when you worked W5gdw I don't know if you knew he could copy you at your faster speed than his or not? but noticed you did not slow down to his speed. In any event thanks for taking the time to make and to show us this activation. I'm still waiting to get you n the log Charlie. sum day! de Ellis WA1RKS

looks like Portage Mtn down the road - on my list - nice video good fer Sandy -- Charlie - i think your sending speed was dirctly proportional to ur heart rate after the climb lol - BUT i must be gettin better at it cause i could translate close to 90% of what was being said yeaaaa -- 73 VE7JYD

Congratulations Sandy and well done to you both for qualifying the summit. Some of that ascent looked tough going. Not sure that I could have concentrated doing CW if there was a threat of a bear in the area. Good video and all the best. 73 Chris M0RSF

I think I asked you this before but have you ever thought about contesting with a local contest group? I think you’d have fun. Your code is Fb

Congratulations Sandy! Red thanks for putting the cw in the lower part of the screen. I know that’s a lot of extra work but it helps us who are learning. Keep up the great SOTA adventures!

Is it just me that thinks this way? At the time of my watching this video there are 21 views but only 7 👍🏻… For all the effort you and your wife went through to record and publish this content every viewer should give a Like.. I really appreciate all your SOTA/POTA you do. Almost did my first SOTA yesterday but need to bring a shorter antenna for the space I had or visit a SOTA and one that has less traffic or activate it on Mon-Wed. 73 N1YLO
