first rule of tropical region, never, ever drink coconut water from coconut that has been left on the ground. you should get the one that still stick on the trees, or go to local food vendors with coconuts.

Malaysian here,
First off, it's not just the littering laws, all laws are a bit lax, not because of the law itself but the execution of the law that hurts. It is kind of neglected because it has become the norm of Malaysian society (more on that in an email later). Also, that was not THE Malaysian experience. For a true Malaysian experience, JB was, imo not the best place to do it as it is more urbanized(?). But I've never seen that much dishes for Malay rice going for RM 7 only...

I think Nigel is one of the most awesome hosts you've had so far, he's very fun on camera. Really loving these Geography Go episodes -- wish I lived somewhere interesting (I'm in Canada) so I could invite you myself.

Hey Barb! U were here in Malaysia? XD Awesome!

I almost bust my gut laughing when I heard you guys call the Malaysian Mixed Rice "Nasi Padang". I bet your Indonesian viewers were going "Hey, isn't Nasi Padang ours?"

Generally we call it "Nasi Campur" here which literary translates as Mixed Rice. Glad ya like it.

Oh don't worry abt getting Tetanus. You're more likely to get Dengue Fever in these parts. Come back soon! :D

6:16 Correction. It's the Sultan of Johor. Malaysia uses "king" as its leader. Our kind is living in the palace in Kuala Lumpur. That building is just one of the Sultan of Johor's houses. Not Malaysia's. Just corrected that Barby.

You CAN find tin roofed houses still on mainland Singapore and in fact, I'm staying literally opposite it in my HDB. It's located at Buangkok and it's considered to be the last kampung to ever be preserved in Singapore.

Fun fact: The border between Singapore and Malaysia on the Johor side (We have two customs that links to Malaysia but let's just talk about the one that links from Woodlands) met with a pretty tragic history. During the Japanese invasion of Malaya, Singapore was considered as a final frontier for the British outpost on the Far East and the only way at that point that seems logical for the Japanese to invade into Singapore was by using the bridge. However, to delay the Japanese advance, the British, ANZAC (Australian & New Zealand Army Corp) and Indian forces blew up the bridge behind their retreat thinking that it will take the Japanese a few weeks to get it up again while the Australian backup could arrive in time to defend Singapore. Tomoyuki Yamashita, the supreme commander of the Japanese forces in the Philippines and Malaya took the Johor sultan's palace and used the tower you have seen as a vantage point to check over Singapore. Arthur Percival (The worst British general of WWII and the general protector of the Malayan coast) did not destroy the palace watchtower in prevention of any conflict with the sultan. With all that aside, it took the Japanese just 7 days to get the border bridge up again rather than the 3 weeks the Brits anticipated and soon in just a matter of 1 week of combat, Singapore fell into Japanese hands. It wasn't rebuilt to it's current state only after the British returned. The Causeway (What it's called for the bridge) was also under threat from Malaysia by calling for all kinds of nonsensical reasons to remove the Causeway and for one reason that happened once was just over a small matter in 1986 when the former Israeli President Chiam Herzog visited Singapore (I don't know what to say but yes, it's a Jewish-Muslim conflict again...).

Padang is the largest city on the west coast of Sumatra Island and the capital of the province of West Sumatra, Indonesia.

That's where Nasi Padang comes from, and you can find it in various countries or outside the country (Indonesia), such as:
Netherlands, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Suriname, Australia, United Arab Emirates, United States, Philippines, Qatar, Japan, South Korea, Canada, New Caledonia, Timor-Leste, etc.
