Coaches also try to manipulate the game with conversation, so officials have to be aware and establish ground rules. A “thumbs up” or “head nod” can sometimes accommodate a coach. But at times “Now is not a good time, ” “We can talk at next the time out” or “We can’t explain every call. Be selective” is needed. Be firm, be fair.
