The Brent Mason solo that made the industry ask: “who the hell is he?”

Hey folks, hoping you are doing well.

Here’s the first electric guitar solo from Brent Mason on the Alan Jackson classic I don’t even know your name. Brent informed me, during the recording of this song, rather than head off to lunch with the other A List players, he stayed behind in the studio and figured out some ideas for his solos on this song. The two electric guitar and acoustic guitar solos are now iconic examples of recording session outputs by Brent.

Hoping you enjoy this clearer video version.

Please check out the many covers I’ve done of Brent’s work 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.

Brent is one of the best guitarists ever.

As a metal nerd, I've perfected my stinkface through many years of disgusting breakdowns and filthy two-step, and this ripper gets my most stinky stinkface. Fantastic.

Wow you're so good that for a split second I thought "Brent Mason looks different" awesome playing, gotta whip out my tele and practice some of these runs. Thank you very much for the needed inspiration!

I've been a fan of Brent Mason since the mid 80's. I also own a Tele but can't play like that, just never put enough time into it....You nailed it my man ! Excellent job, thanks for sharing !

You nailed that solo! Bravo! And, yes, when I first heard that solo on the radio, I wondered exactly, "Who the hell is that?"

First time I heard Brent was Heart Break Highway by Keith Whitley. I had to learn that style. I bought his VCR tape and did a crash course. THEN I discovered Albert Lee and I realized where it all came from. Great Job DR. G

I was under the impression it was his solo on Southbound Train by Travis Tritt that got everyone talking. When this Alan Jackson song came out in the mid to late 90s, everyone already knew who was and was talking about him. I recall having to learn all the solos on this song when I was playing the circuit here in Texas. I was expected to play it note for note. I did, but it took a solid week to learn it all and get all of it up to tempo. Then I show up to the gig and band leader says he'll play the acoustic solo. Thanks. Wish he'd said something sooner.

Sounding great! What pick-up have you got in neck position? I’ve recently bought a second tele (😳) so gonna keep stock in that one and switch the neck pick-up out in my old tex mex.

Just great, now I have to suffer and learn this solo. Do you realize how many hours this going take. People will think I'm a hermit. I must now hate you. 🖖

Awesome. Do you just use the pick or other fingers on the right hand as well.

He was getting attention way before Hell, he was getting popular when he still had a KHALER BRIDGE ON THE GREY TELE which was pre-glaser bender.... Evidence of said bridge can be seen in clips of Brent from the Nashville cats band with Mark O'Connor as band leader.

He reminds me of that Englishman that played with Rodney Crowell ( I think) for a while, studio guy I cant remember his name....
