Special time and “timeless” photos, Scott. To each his own when it comes to cameras. When a cam feels like part of you (no “ref” in the way) photography can be a joy and unleash our creativity. I get your gist.
Winter scene, but we don’t see Scott’s breath, and looks like he’s wearing canvas sneakers — hmmm. Cheers!

I use the s5II mainly for photography. I loaned a Nikon z6II last time from a friend and if shot canon from other friends. I don’t feel i miss anything on my Lumix. Instead I’m always the quickest in setting up the camera for different styles of photography. I shot some amazing high res photos of Rotterdam on 96 megapixel, and also some live composites on city traffic. Time lapse from comet or aurora. I always asking people what defines a photocentric camera, since they don’t count the s5II between them. It’s a loaded camera easy to use for a superb price. I also love your photography style and like to watch h your content. I would love to see the caravan/boat picture in a x panorama 😜

Good to see someone talking about the photography side of panasonic lumix. I find it hard to find dedicated ones on youtube. Still am on the fence if I ever should buy an S5ii would like to see where the system goes eg. Lens wise. A routemap would help with that.
Currently already have the fujifilm X-H2 and canon r8 so I wont be gaining much with adding or replacing one of the camera's for an S5ii. I do also own an old panasonic lx2 and a panasonic g100. I do like Panasonic colour science especially for landscapes and forestscapes and snapshots. A bit less for portraits out of the box. For that I like the Canon and Fuji more.
But it would be great if I didnt have three different systems, but a single color science system for an easier editing workflow. Lumix for that seems to have the most potential.

Hi Scott, great video topic and location. I switched to Lumix a few months ago (from @ 4 years of Fuji Xt-4 and X100V), in part to your previous videos. Lumix has great affordability, lens selection, and third support for accessories, like batteries and video production needs. I got the S5M2X after staring at the Leica SL2S, and realizing what an amazing photo machine the Lumix is. I am 95% still photography, hoping to learn more about video. The Lumix camera does not get in the way of the creative process, I can trust its technical capabilities, and the full frame quality. I am also learning how to use the hand held high resolution mode, though 24 megapixels is more than enough for my usage. I have their holy trinity of zooms, 14-28, 20-60, and 70-300. Makes for a great kit for travel photography (mostly the Western US).

Great video. Proud user of Lumix cameras since 2008. Never looked back. So sorry for all those miserable and toxic haters...

Hello Scott, many thanks for your great content, a great style, both visually and the way you talk. Very calm, informative and entertaining.
I absolutely agree with you about the photo quality with Lumix cameras. I came to Lumix via the G9. I now use an S5 and S5II with various Lumix and Sigma lenses to shoot wedding reportages. The clients are always delighted with the quality of the pictures. When it comes to video, I take exactly the opposite approach. I'm only now discovering the full potential. The switch from the G9 to the Lumix Fullframe program was also very much influenced by the feel and usability. I now also have an S9 for my private photo walks. Again, the image quality is great and I was able to use the existing lenses straight away. Keep up the good work, I always look forward to new videos. Best regards from Germany, Ingo

Yo Scott I loved that referees analogy I think it works really well bc now all cameras are in the game and perform well and the quirks of each brand would be closer to how a referee can impact a game! Great video!! 💯

Lumix has definately been slept on for photography. Personally, I've never owned any camera other than my S23u, which is a fantastic phone. But, as someone looking the flexibility of a hybrid camera, panasonic has struck that perfect balance between video and photo. For me, I might not need anything more than a gh6 but the overall image aesthetic of the s5ii is perfect for the work I'll be doing. I love the color science of gh6 and it still might be in the cards as a B cam but as of right now, the s5ii is looking mighty fine for both photography and videography.

Wow what a coincidence this video is released after I made a purchase of a lumix s9 two days ago. The s9 20-60 lens kit package is on sale for $1, 399 USD brand new!!

I will admit the few photos I took on jpeg, are horrible. I shoot manual. Going to try and stick to RAW shooting moving forward.

I’ve been shooting with the S1R for three years now and won’t be replacing it any time soon for stills. paired with a Leica Summicron or a Zeiss Otus it is a marvelous high performance machine.

The one thing I take issue with is the idea that these camera are “intuitive.” I think we should be honest about this point, lumix design philosophy is about packing features into a camera body and then being able to customize functionality, in that sense they are a lot like modern digital cinema cameras, there is no emphasis on ease of use or being able to get good results without a lot of set up; and in that way they are pretty clunky and not intuitive at all. If you don’t believe me, do a side by side comparison between the Leica SL2 and the LUMIX S1R. They are essentially the same camera but the companies take totally different approaches to the user experience. The Leica is far easier to use and understand right out of the box and requires little customization. Whereas you’re gonna spend days in the LUMIX menus unless you already have experience with LUMIX cameras. I’m not saying one approach is better than the other but if a shooter is looking for a camera that is actually intuitive they should go with Leica because ease of use is a major part of their design philosophy and it shows.

If a shooter wants a camera that gives them a great deal of control and customization but that might take a while to learn then LUMIX is probably the best choice, as long as they don’t mind buying a $5, 000 printer because anything else won’t do the images justice. 🙂

“We used to have an S1R”
Yes and they still exist on the used market and I recently bagged one for under a grand.
It weighs a fraction more than the Nikon D850 and, talking of which, both the D850 and the S1R are still in the top four of DXOMark’s Image Sensor rankings and the other two (in the top four sensors) are digital medium format cameras!

Hi Scott, I'm a Lumix S5II lover too, I agree with your opinion but the lens probably makes a huge difference. With my 50mm 1.8, everything is sharper and more precise than with the 20-60. I really like color science

And what make it an awesome photography camera is using luts as film simulations and you can even stack luts on top each other to get some unique photos .

Lovely video! I'm going to be bold and ask if those amazing photos were RAW+edits or if you were using a lut. We have almost the same conditions here in Sweden right now and I would love to know how you got those results. Thanks for your awesome videos.

Hey Scott, these photos are absolutely stunning! What lens were you using for these? And it sounds like you shoot these photos in Vlog and grade them after? So beautiful :)
