I'm getting a vibe of a hero trapped in an 'unbreakable' circle, while the sympathetic bad guys try to pretend to be her, maybe thinking they can do it better.

She just waits, until they realize just how hard her job really is. They finally give up, but there's no way to release her in time to avert their mistakes!

That's when she just grins, and instantly vaporizes the 'unbreakable' magic circle, revealing she could have escaped at any time, and heads out to fight the enemy they couldn't beat. Because that's what heroes do.

Vika threw a hand up, pointing at her. "See? SEE!? THAT is what I can't STAND about you! Why won't you HATE me!?"

Elen half-smiled, an expression that was amused and nostalgic all at once. "If I hated you, it would mean hating me, and only an idiot would hate themselves. And you are DEFINITELY an idiot."

Vika's fists clenched, and the entire room rumbled from a distant impact. "...Damn it. DAMN IT. How can you talk to me like that, and still make me...make me feel..."

She furiously wiped away tears.

"I'm sorry, alright? Is that what you wanted to hear? I just wanted to FIX things. Make things better! I never meant...I didn't mean..." Another distant impact rattled the room, and still Elen's eyes were soft. "Stop LOOKING at me like that!"

Her eyes crinkled. "You can hate me if you want, but nothing can make me stop feeling this way. I LIKE you, Vika. You've got a spark in you, something that could make you just like me...someday. Not today. Not tomorrow. But someday." Another impact shook the room, and Elen looked up, for the first time her brow furrowing in a hint of concern. "But if you want to go down that path, you have to choose now. Release me, and I'll fight the Harbinger. No questions; no judgements. Or don't. It's your choice, and that's what matters."

Vika stormed to her feet. "You don't GET it, do you!? These bindings?" She gestured to the hundreds of ornate wooden pylons filling the room, "They took me MONTHS to make. Taking them down would take...hours! Maybe days! There's no way I'd get you out in time!" her lip quivered. "Everyone's going to die...and it's all my fault, a-" She choked off the final word.

Elen tilted her head. "...a...again? What do you blame yourself for? You're barely more than a child."

"It's NONE of your business." She snapped, brutally schooling her expression, before striding over to one of the pylons, hovering her hands above it as light gathered in her palms. "I...I'm going to let you go. I don't know how long it will take, but-"

"GOOD." The word from Elen echoed through the room, filling it to the brim and spilling over, making Vika stumble in shock. That was POWER. She should...

"You're bound!" Vika protested, disbelieving.

Elen grinned brightly. "You've chosen the right path, girl. Now stand back; this might get a bit hot."

Vika watched, mouth agape, as Elen slowly lowered her hand to her sword, and the impossible happened. Even here, bound by a thousand sealing rods, the glow of her power rippled forth like a heat haze, glowing from every part of her body. In response, the seals began to glow, brighter, brighter - "That's...that's impossible! Those wards could bind the SUN!"

Elen's grin widened, and her hand touched her sword. Instantly, every rod in the room flashed blindingly bright, and in a split-second, every single one failed, the letters and paper flashing into fire in an instant.

Master: "Hate is also negative. Try thinking of a candle instead of a bonfire. Imagine feeling the warmth, and not smoldering heat."
Student: "Think small. Happy thoughts. Got it."
