10 Common Mistakes on Football Manager

I have done a bunch of deep dives about Football Manager recently. The training videos, the scoutings videos, the tactical breakdowns of the different streamer showdowns. We are back to doing a classic FM22 tutorial. Sometimes, you just have to get into your favorite type of video, and I have a google doc that when it fills up I can make a new FM list guide video thinkgs, and the google doc finally filled up.

As always I try to touch on many of the different aspects of football manager, the scouting, the dynamics, the tactics, and the winning matches. Winning matches is kind of important. May this list of tips and tricks guide you to more wins that you previously had, may it carry you to great Football Manager success. Even if that doesn’t happen, hopefully you are thoroughly entertained by the video!

I’m not sure how I feel about Zealand…on one hand I like his videos and appreciate his valuable advice. On the other hand he’s American. For an Englishman, taking advice from an American about football just feels wrong on multiple levels!! JK (kind of) loving the videos and the advice 👍

Fun fact about the kit. It initially didn’t have the badge and Dortmund fans hated that the clubs badge wasn’t on it so badly that the board went to puma and requested that they put the badge on afterwards

The work permit hints helped, I got an extremely promising left winger from South Africa he could even play as a wing back. Problem was the work permit situation, loaning him out actually helped as he went to a Franch club and is starting every game with them and now he's got his permit after returning to the club.

The moving players to affiliates is a good option as opposed to more regular loans. Out of curiosity are the commercial affiliates actually worth getting? Is it possible to see how much revenue they generate and if they effect sponsership or other less predicatable revenue?

SI needs to add an option to set player training load to what your physios recommend automatically. There is an option in that page to set them to physio recommendation, but you’d have to do that daily which is just silly.

What is/how significant is the difference between a player being loaned or moved to an affiliate in a lower division vs playing u23/u21 football? Is there a tangible way to compare the strength of the league without going through each team and just checking yourself?

May I suggest adding timestamps to your videos? Would help a lot...

With playing time, if the player is in a bad run of form, this can be used to suggest a lower playing time successfully… persuade will work as there is an option about form as a reason to reduce playing time. They’ve always accepted this as they don’t have a foot to stand on!

Regarding #8. If I want to sell the player and have accepted the bid from another club I always send the player down to the reserves or youth team. I can't for sure say it works every time but I sure feel like the players are much more likely to accept that he is done in your club and accepts to leave. Because when I'm not sure if I want to sell the player or not I keep them in the first squad and it's much more common for me that these players reject contract offers from bidding clubs.

Usually if I buy a player who I plan to loan I just add a loan back clause

How does loaning out players compare to having a B-team in the league structure?
For example Jong Utrecht, and similar type of teams. Because I mostly stick my not-yet-homegrown players in my B-team, winning Keuken Kampioen Divisie year on year with my U21 foreign wonderkid army, while the homegrown players get loaned out.

Been caught by Number 10. loaned a guy in for 0% wage contribution and couldn’t register him in 2nd division of Spain because I wasn’t paying him at least 2.5k a week

I use tighter marking with narrow defending and high press in order to reduce spaces, force mistakes and time with the ball for my opponents. So far is working
