I have made many Ulu knife scales and cutting boards.My cutting boards are made by gluing two 3/4" build up boards face to face. This allows me to route in a storage slot for the knife before the face to face gluing takes place. I even designed the interior of the slot so the knife is difficult to remove unless it is tilted out of the slot. I felt this was a safer situation if a kid were to grab the knife. Also, if you have a lathe with a large faceplate, the concave dish material can be removed and sanded in short order. This also allows a constant check on knife/bowl contact, while turning and finish sanding, as the knife is rolled over the concave surface. Remember, the arc of the cutting board does not have to match the arc of the Ulu knife. As long as the arc of the cutting board is a greater radius than the knife and the transition is smooth, contact of knife/bowl is all that is needed for function.

Thanks, I bought the knife kits and was searching how to attached the handle, I'd also prefer not to sandwich it in. Great idea with the oscillating tool, but I can't find such a narrow blade...where did you get it? Other option I see is to cut one to size...but would prefer to purchase one.

SO you didn't even glue that wood handle to the knife, won't it just fall out?

I have to say that “pepe amazing plan” (Google it) is a good woodworking book. Both novice and some experienced woodworker could gain lots of general information using this reading material. I have been very surprised how frequently I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and also salvage spots.
