Hopefully you will consider adding a piece of that tubular at each of the other 3 corners to take the weight of the wall studs where it is currently sitting in a way they were never meant to carry such a load. Better to over engineer than under...

Don't know what size screws you used to anchor the angle iron to the wall, but that will be he ultimate failure point, hopefully at least 1/4" lag screws. Typically on a floor or roof system you run the OSB perpendicular to the "joist" members. Less deflection in between. If you just put lightweight stuff up there, you'll be fine. Cool columns.

I’m guessing the wall studs where you put your angle iron “ledgers” will be strong enough to bear the load of whatever you decide to store up there, but that steel frame (instead of two by fours) and the heavy osb floor is pretty heavy. I think I would have put a 2x8, or better yet a 2x10 wood ledger, up there instead of the angle iron. You could still put up wood ledgers, just cut a rabbet to provide clearance for the angle iron. Make sure you attach the ledger to the wall with plenty of fasteners, and I’d recommend quarter or 3/8 inch diameter lag screws. Even then, don’t store a load of bricks up there.

I started welding school two weeks ago! Still learning acetylene cutting but I’m progressing the fastest in my class and absolutely loving it. Great to finally start enjoying something at 25 years of age

love the videos, but the audio is often too quiet. When ads come on they're super loud. And I can't hear from my phone while at work now.

Love that the title specifies that you are only changing the shop and not yourself, because you don’t need changing.

So cool to incorporate some historical pieces into your shop. Can't wait to see the finished result.

Planning and setting up a better organized work space is always as big of a project as the things we want to create, but dang it all if the nice workspace doesn't make it feel all the better when ypu do the fun stuff

I remember meeting you when you came over from Seattle to stay with Alec, bumped into you on the stairs (6 or 7 years ago) at Harford Manor. I think you was only 17 at the time. You two had lots of fun making a pirate's sword out of Damascus. (Good old Barker street). Still following you on YouTube, great to see you still following your dream.

Nice!

Pro tip: If you have multiple sheets that need to be ripped down, drive a couple nails or screws through them, then stack cut.

Also, double check the angle on your saw before you stack cut anything... A few degrees adds up when you're cutting 8 sheets.

I agree with the people saying you need 1/4" or 3/8" lag screws to hold up your frame attached to the wall, normal wood screws like to snap with a load on them and simply aren't safe enough. I also would recommend some rectangle tubing or even a 2x6 or 2x8 instead of the angle iron because even with lag screws there's a chance the angle iron could bend with too much load and be unsafe.

Also, the frame for your floor should be sitting atop the bridge beam, not welded to a plate hanging off underneath it. The strength of the beam isn't being used the way it''s currently built, your welds are taking that load instead. Depending how much weight you plan to put up there, the 4 welds on that plate may not be strong enough.

I think you handled that skill saw better than I usually do! I can't cut a straight line to save my life! By the time I'm done, my cuts look more like the leaning Tower of Pisa than the Washington Monument!

Love the creative use of an unusual object to make this mezzanine. I did something similar in my shop with shelving from a defunct big box store.

Such a cool idea to take the truss from an old bridge to make it.

I wouldn't even know where to look or think of acquiring such cool old things to repurpose.

I love it though when things are repurposed like this!

I realy appreciate all the work in puting out these videos a bit faster. Thanks for all the efort. When you feel bored, how about making a folding knife. I mean you have the skill.

Foil faced osb would be awesome. You'd get insulation benefits and it would be better for lighting up the underside. Love this project, Will!

Love your videos, and it's nice to see other people doing things that don't end up perfect, and the entire process! Makes me feel better about when my projects don't go smoothly

Always tack up your fab jobs before you weld solid that way if you need to make changes you don’t have so much cutting!
