This was dope!! Dave Pensado also had a great tutorial on how to get bass to cut through on smaller speakers without affecting it on bigger speakers or headphones using MaxxBass! Great help as well for cellphone/laptop playback

This tip is perfect and yes, Rbass is the key for adding harmonics to your bass. Try to use a chorus (mono) to make the bass/808 richer too

I use your last video techniques (mixing 808 with a lead) and my 808 sounds so good :)

Thanks for these mixing tips bro

Your videos actually get me excited to mix my songs. It's normally my least favorite part, but your tips actually work! Thank you so much Devvon. The song is fire too!

Watched on my iPad on purpose ! Not sure if I really heard a difference. I will say the kick cut through pretty good! I understand what you are doing with the math but remember the rule in Audio is that if it sounds good than its all good. I’m not sure if I’ve ever boosted 100hz on an 808, but I will boost around 147hz just to get some of that mid range and a a lil saturation or distortion just to bring out some buzz so that the 808 can cut through small speakers ! Anyways dope stuff and for the people reading he ain’t wrong.

Extremely helpful. I have a fine mix that translated really well to an iPad. EXCEPT the bass literally disappeared. This ‘trick’ solved it as much as can be expected. Now you could sense and feel it . TY!

Bro, Devvon, I've been watching through a bunch of your tutorial videos and I wanted to say THANK YOU for taking the time to make these. I know virtually nothing about mixing, but you really seem to be such an incredibly cool and unusually intelligent guy (and incredibly talented too, your music is freaking astounding), and the fact that you go out of your way to put together these extremely well-produced, in-depth tutorials also reflects a very considerate soul- so I may not know wtf you're talking about specifically in these, but I appreciate you being a genuine dude who cares enough to share your vast knowledge with the world!

If I could ask you for some advice: I'm a rapper, I've been writing rhymes since mid-2011 but I'm finally beginning to get some traction on YouTube. But the thing is that as I mentioned, I don't know anything beyond the basics of mixing, I know only enough to make my songs not sound like garbage (to my ears at least... they'd probably still sound like garbage to you lol).
I don't know any producers/engineers personally, and I'm not sure where I would begin trying to find one (assuming that learning everything necessary to do it myself would take more time and/or money than I have at the moment). But also, even if I were to find one, I wouldn't have the level of knowledge that I'm guessing would be necessary to be able to evaluate how good they are / whether they are worth what they charge... since for example someone like you who is obviously a highly skilled expert, and some rando who knows a tenth of what you know, would both call yourself "engineers" and how to perceive the difference between you is something I wouldn't know how to do...

So, might you have any advice/recommendations for a floundering rapper?? It's so incredibly frustrating knowing how to write and record, but then spending 8 hours spinning my wheels trying to make the mix sound decent with my microscopic fraction of the knowledge you have...
I know you are undoubtedly very busy so if you don't have time to answer then I totally understand, and either way I hope you continue to do the awesome job you're doing. But if you do, any advice you're wiling to give will be *infinitely* appreciated! 🙏

(Also I'll be praying for you brother, I saw your video about taking time off music- I really hope you find exactly the peace and direction you need man. Much love)

Please teach Gain Staging!! It’s so important!! So many beginner producers, including myself miss the important step before they start producing music.
