I have been growing & using Chayote Squash for years as a Keto apple substitute. To make it taste more like apple, I use Green Apple extract that I buy on Amazon. No one can tell that it is not real apples!

If you put your "pie" filling in the blender or food processor it will work as apple butter for your keto bread toast.😊

I am 65yo and my Grandma was growing them in her backyard and using these (we call them Chokos in Australia) as an apple substitute when I was a kid. She had been using them since WW2 when apples were not readily available. Not a new idea, but a time tested alternative.

My dad was Cajun, we called chayote “mirliton”, but I’ve never tried it sweet before….might have to make the hubby a surprise “chapple pie”!

Works great (chunky faux apple filling) with a ground and chunky pecan flour crust (pecans, brown swerve, vanilla, melted butter, cinnamon) ON TOP as a Keto-fied Apple Brown Betty.

I have to use zucchini, i don't have chayote squash in my area, but it works great, and tastes just like apple 😊 I've never used cream of tartar, i'll make sure to include that next time. Thanks for the tip!

As charming as you ladies are, I am skeptical of pseudo stuff. Your tip about the Cream of Tartar is really cool! We grow our own succulent, sweet-tart apples - and have about a bushel in the house right now. During apple season, we just forget keto and have some real apples - unsweetened because they don't need it! (We don't do Halloween - go All Saints' Day! - but your meatloaf mummy sure is cute.) Help for getting through the holidays would be quite welcome.
