As someone who has owned a Steam Deck, Rog Ally, and now a Legion Go, none of these handhelds are perfect. They all have their pros and cons. Pick whichever one you’re happy with and call it a day

Only thing for me (I've had the Legion Go for 19 days), is that the battery life is far better if you actually manually go in and adjust your tdp and resolution scaling based on whatever game you're playing. It tends to run a lot more power than it needs to. For example, my longest play session so far replaying FF7 Remake netted me just about 3 hrs and 15 minutes at 20 tdp. Where as something like God of War 3 on PS3, amped up on 1440p with 2x scaling would required the full 35 tdp, and gets me a whopping 70 minute battery time. You can already changed all key mapping to any key on the device, you simply need to do it via regedit. As far as seeing battery life, all I did was add a widget on the desktop for that, which I just googled and downloaded.

I have a steam deck too, and had an ally until it melted my $190 SD card, but at this point I'm happy enough with the legion that my steam deck is going to be on its way to facebook marketplace soon :P

UPDATE AS OF 11/15/2023

Most of my software issues have been fixed with recent updates from Lenovo! The menu button now ONLY opens the quick settings as I wished it would. FPS counter has been fixed. And the Legion Space software feels less buggy and actually over lays every game I play now without hassle. I still wish that the screen had VRR and the battery life was better, but overall it's a much smoother/better experience already since this video went live.

People underestimate windows/PC gaming. The fact that u can easily get ANY game you want, even through piracy is amazing. Not only games, but even mods for them, u can adjust any settings in the game and just do anything u want

You shouldn't apologize at all. I have no idea where this narrative began that just because it's a windows device, you should expect hours upon hours of updates, errors, and troubleshooting. I've had numerous gaming PCs along with a One X Player 2, Win 4, Win Max 2, Aya Neo Geek 1s, Steam Deck, and a AOK Zoe A1 Pro. All of them were better out of the box than the Ally and Legion Go.

We should not have to just accept a messy experience out of the box. Many of these issues were painfully obvious and Lenovo could have fixed it before they released it. Instead, they pushed the embargo date back and released it knowing that it was completely unfinished. The community needs to stop accepting that business practice from any company.

I've owned the Deck and Rog, and I've pre-ordered the Go. The Deck is a fantastic system, but SteamOS currently doesn't support many of the games I enjoy. So, it's not as simple as just picking up the Deck and playing. SteamOS is a challenge for me. It will be fantastic when it can run all games, but until then, I'll be waiting for the Deck 2. On the other hand, the Rog gave me nothing but problems, with two SD cards burning out, terrible analog stick deadzones, frequent crashes, and sticky buttons. I ended up returning it. The Legion Go has everything I'm looking for in a handheld device, a bigger screen. similar to the Nintendo Switch joy cons detachment, and it can also function as a tablet.

I think it's sad that we are at the point where we expect things to have to be ironed out when they release. The consumer shouldn't have to have growing pains with our systems. These companies shouldn't think it's okay to give us half baked software and expect us to just deal with it

I purchased a 2tb model from micro center for 99 more than the base model. Lenovo is not promoting a 2tb model but they do have one that comes upgraded. excellent review, I agree with most of what you're saying, just too used to playing on my steam deck. please keep up the good work.

I’d like to see SteamOS optimized for the legion go

I got rid of my deck and got the legion go. I honestly love it way better. Im a simple gamer who wanted a handheld just to play a few games while i watch things on tv and be mobile. This is simple for me and easy to follow to add drivers and all. I havent had all the problems others have thank goodness. Im gucci for now

Im torn between buying this and the rog ally. I just want a emulation machine which I know both do well but also I want to play some classics as well like early cod and halo games

I'd love a software option in FPS mode to disable the mouse laser and activate the right joystick as a mouse so that all buttons can be fully mappable as keyboard/mouse button inputs.

The binding of the back buttons as only single input 'xbox' face buttons in Xbox mode feels a little lackluster. Macros would be far more suitable, especially when the customisation of controls with the Steamdeck has already shown so many QoL improvements.
It's a game changer to be able to assign two inputs to one button in games like Elden Ring.

Multiple profiles under the Xbox controller setting would be a very welcome addition, so we don't have to undo and redo our controls on swapping games.

the rog ally has better speakers than the steam deck or the legion go which why a lot of people say the legion speakers are bad

For the portrait screen issues: change the resolution you wish to play your game at I windows first (I know it will scramble your icons etc) and then run the game and pick same resolution.
