One issue you may run into, RED cans are designated for Unleaded Gasoline. If you try to fill that with Diesel Fuel or Kerosene at a filling station, you could get in trouble, or the station might prohibit you. If you can find one, a Yellow can is the correct container for that fuel type.

Tried this similar method and the diesel heater throw an error code for the lack of fuel meaning there is either a check valve in the tank now or the quick disconnect. Tested this by placing the fuel line directly into the tank and it worked flawlessly.

THANK YOU for posting this!! I am planning to do the same thing but questioned if it would work. Did you find the primer bulb beneficial to priming the dosing pump instead of doing the normal dry priming procedure. I didn't feel the pump would last priming it dry when doing a first time start up. I find when working with any type of fuel, air etc, line/ hose if you place the end of hose in boiling water for 30 seconds or more it softens the fuel line allowing it to slide right onto the fitting. Is the fuel being drawn through a "draw straw" at the tank hose connection? Again thank you for posting this!!

Does the heater fuel pump have any trouble getting fuel from that tank?
