Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, under Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE, retained its Grade One Championship at the 2014 World Pipe Band Championships, held in Glasgow on 15 and 16 August 2014.

Like last year the championships were held over two days with the Grade One qualification heats being held on the Friday and the finals on the Saturday. So four performances and sixteen judges stood between the bands and the final prize list.

The final was one of the best musically that I have been to. All bands played to exceptional standards. Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Lisburn, County Antrim, under Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE and Drum Sergeant Keith Orr retained the Grade One title for the fourth year running. This video documents the band's medley on the Saturday final.

Tunes played are:

[00:00] Rowd's Hornpipe (composed by Garth Neel)
[00:57] The High Drive Jig (composed by Gordon Duncan)
[01:29] Jig: The Piper's Bonnet (traditional)
[02:31] Air: Sine Bhan (traditional)
[03:20] Strathspey: Rodney Hull QC (composed by Bill Livingstone)
[03:51] Strathspey: Lachine Rapids (traditional)
[04:23] Willie MacKenzie's Reel (traditional)
[04:44] Reel: Smelling Fresh (composed by James Duncan MacKenzie)
[05:04] Hornpipe: Pipe Major George Allan (composed by PM Donald MacLeod)

i was there this year! Of all bands, this band's sound tone and strength are by most solid, i just cannot describe how solid it feels..i'm thankful to have witnessed the best of the best of GHB in display.

Just perfect. To me: just some transitions, having been perfectly executed, might have been arranged a bit richer.

I can feel my ancestors pulsing through my veins when I listen to this. Give me a claymore and a fair lass to send me off. We leave none alive!

A very very strong performance
Opening tune is Bright and Cheerful. SINE BHAN Takes ME BACK TO 1980 at the Worlds.Things that spoil FMM THIS IS the main passion killer and JUST PERSONAL PREFERENCE. THE OTT HARMONIZING HONESTLY IT KI LLS THE ENJOY MENT. PLEASE STOP IT ITS A BIT PLASTERY YES IM A WARE ITS SLOW AIR YOU EXPECT BUT IT AINT NEEDED ANYWHERE ELSE IF OTHER TUNES OUTSIDE THE SLOW AIR NEED IT TO SHOW CASE IT THEN THEY SHOULDNT BE PLAYED IN A Band that's RIGHTLY WON AS MANY TIMES AS FMM. STILL WELL DONE WELL PLAYED.👏👏👏
