Nice comparison, I went with the RC Pro bundle when purchasing my new Mavic 3 Pro recently. I was back and forth on the added cost, but most admit it was absolutely right for me. Having that extra NIT and also the HDMI out has proved very useful in a few assignments, and once I get a few more flights under my belt I will need to customize some of the settings to my likings on C1, C2 etc.

It appears the DJI RC Pro is necessary for a professional...but for recreational flyers, the DJI RC is more than enough. Thanks for posting.

Great video Jake.

Here is some of the more technical differences between the DJI RC and the RC Pro.

The DJI RC Pro is based off the P1 chipset like O3 where as the DJI RC uses the S1 ship set. It’s a cut back version with no onboard processing and they have offload the video processing onto the main SOC of the device rather than it being handled by the SDR.

They have also massively reduced the complexity of the design and BOM on the DJI RC with is being much simpler overall design. Basically the DJI RC is a single PCB board with a very cut back SOC and a custom Fly App to allow it to work on the lower performance Hw. The WiFi/BT antennas on the PCB rather than external like on the RC Pro. Its got less battery and only a 2 stage RF front end for the O3 SDR hens the reduction in antennas.
They just have massively reduced the overall component count internally. This is very much the same setup as the DJI RC N1 just with a screen.

The DJI RC Pro uses a 4 Stage RF front end
and far more powerful processor. As a result of this they have the HDMI output and the ability to run 3rd partly apps.

It’s actually incredible how well the DJI RC actually works as they have cut it back so much but it’s just the right balance. also I still think the pricing is very aggressive on it but they also likely have a VERY big margin on the Pro.

It’s also from an assembly point of view far more complex product the RC Pro and labor will be higher as well.

Overall I think the DJI RC Pro is massively over priced and the DJI RC is under priced in comparison.

I agree, yes to the DJI RC Pro! The extra NITs, definitely the HDMI output, better transmission range...NICE! Good comparison review Jake!

I have my Part 107 and recently purchased the Mavic 3 Classic with the RC Pro controller. I went for the expensive controller in order to get the brightness, the processing power, and the 4 antennas.

always appreciate the content 👍 the DJI RC is such a horrible experience. Laggy touch responsiveness, camera switching time, and the range in higher noise floor is piss-poor. Soo many times the DJI RC has lost connection/initiated RTH at 500-800’ ft away. Anyone on the fence between the two, go for the Pro … DJI Refurb has them for $950ish

Lot to love about the Pro; 5d button for quick EV control, sooo much more responsive/useable, and perhaps most importantly (and rarely mentioned) the gimbals have far more resolution and makes a night and day difference for precision flying.

I should add that the DJI RC, though only 700 nits, is still brighter than many smartphones (I noticed a difference) and that it is a huge leap over the standard RCN1 controller. My only downside was that the sticks don't have much resistance which makes flying seem a little more "virtual" but it is a minor grumble.

I purchased the RC Pro for exactly your reasons @ 07:37 - flying in Oregon you are going to have trees...and they drop bars. That and flying near high tension / electrical lines and bridges - these would always cause dropped bars or loss of signal with the RC, the RC Pro handles them all like a champ - no dropped bars and no signal loss.

I received the DJI RC PRO free when they ran out of the basic controller and gave me the Pro at no charge when I bought the combo. Lucked out!

Also the DJI RC Pro has built in fan - this helps in hot environments

Thank you for taking the time to produce this piece of content. I will stick with the DJI RC.

I actually like the DJI RC-N1 the best for commercial work. Longer battery life and the iPad processor smokes any chip DJI has to power the smart controllers. You can buy a m1 ipad air, rc-n1 and a tablet extender for under $800.00

I've just put in over 700+ flights in the past 9 months on the RC and I'm contemplating stepping up to the Pro. I just don't see it being 400% in price better. I will pay more for more security of connection and range. The extra brightness is always a plus but it's not 2, 000 Nits. I guess if you needed the HDMI output/share then it's a must. Needs more battery life. The Pro seems twice as good as the RC, but not 4X as good as the price suggests.

Superb, informative video, thank you for educating me. I aim to buy the pro controller for my mavic 3 pro next month. I notice there is a slight jump/lag when looking at the live vid on the standard controller with the drone in the air. Also can look a bit grainy when turning the drone in flight. Should the pro controller lead to smoother live video on the controller screen? Thank you

That HDMI out is very handy on RC Pro.

Awesome comparison, Jake.

Great video Jake! EXACTLY what I was looking for. Do you have a video around your live streaming broadcast setup. On the DJI RC PRO, from the Mini-HDMI port to the broadcast partner, which solution did you go with?

Hi Jake. Great video. I got in on that Air 2S bundle with the RC Pro a year ago as my first drone. The Rc wasn't out yet. Now I use it with the Mavic 3 as well. Never did like the idea of using a phone for my FPV.
