MASTER THE EVAP SYSTEM BASICS 🤓

The EVAP system was introduced in 1970 here in California. Its main reason for the introduction was to prevent fuel vapors from entering the atmosphere.

Their are 2 different types of EVAP systems:
- Non-Enhanced was used form 1996-1999 and it only checked for vapor flow.

- Enhanced EVAP systems started in 2000 and it checked for leaks and flow.

I love your "front door" and "back door" analogy, makes it easy to remember!

It’s Amazing brother how you explain .making easy to understand and diagnose it in just 8 min ..In the School it’s not like that …Appreciate..

thank you for the great tutorial
and you are right a car vw golf mk5
fuel tank cap if it's not genuine it will cause random error for low fuel tank pressure causing the engine to limit it's max rpm even with full throttle is pushed down .

Could you make a video explaining how actual gasoline/fuel can enter the evap canister?

Here's what I don't get: people say that the vent valve solenoid is open by default, when no voltage is applied, and it only closes when the computer sends voltage to it (for creating a vacuum during leak/blockage tests). But in that case I don't understand how the vapor canister is able to "trap the fumes" and release them to the engine via the purge valve (which is closed by default and opens only when voltage is applied)? Because as long as the vent valve is open, all fumes will travel through the charcoal filter and out into the atmosphere, meaning that there's no trapping. And to make matters even worse - your fuel gets continuously evaporated this way. Also, many videos have completely opposite explanations which are 100% conflicting, where one guy says the vent valve is a 1-way street for getting air IN the vapor canister, but never OUT, then another guy says the complete polar opposite (only OUT, never IN), then some others say it's a 2-way street for both IN and OUT. I'm completely lost here...

Hi there, your video is great and was giving a great detail on the evap,
I originally was looking how to fix my problem with the car .

So far was not able to find the problem, hope maybe someone here will be able to ...

When I put gas in the tank it trigger up right a way and some gasoline goes out a little, don't matter if it half empty or completely empty but if I put it in a slow barely triggering it in it will fill but I am standing there and holding it for 30 minutes to fill, was being in a shape and they changed the charcoal canister and the back valve but still have the same problem...have no code at all ...

Good video! But what if the evap system is building pressure? When you remove the gas cap you hear a rush of air, what do you do then? 🤔

Engine running, front door open, back door off, front door closed, back door open....you have to command the back door closed via scanner....to check for leaks, , , , but if the back door stays open while command closed ....clamp off the hose to it then check for leak, if no leak...well by now you know the back door is the prob...but still check for power and control always....

How is the system pressurized? It only has a vacuum source (the engine). Is that negative pressure?

Had a P0446 code. Replaced vent solenoid and gas cap. Solenoid was bad for certain but now the code comes back only after the cap is put back on after refueling. So if I delete the code after I refuel each time the money light stays off until the next refuel. 2005 colorado

I saw charcoal pellets clogging the purge valve attached to intake manifold, does that mean charcoal canister is broken?

Does the evap system cause a gas leak that comes out of the evaporator filter

is it normal when you open a gas tank after switching off the engine there is a lot of air pressure coming out?

I have a P0442 small evap leak on my H3. I took it to Firestone repair shop and they did the smog test to the system. They said they couldn't found any leaks in the system. NOW, I notice gas smell right behind the driver rear under the fender. Can that be the small leak that the code is giving????
Forgot to mention, is on the same place side were I add gas to the H3. I replace the gas cap for a new OEM gas cap. And still give me the code.
Help!!
