Hi, I'm Japanese and I can tell you that it sure is Heisei 28 right now. I can understand why you'd be confused by that, though.
Japan likes to have two calendars- the normal Western calendar in which this year would be 2016, and also the calendar that uses the emperor's name. Before the current Heisei emperor, the emperor was Showa, before that it was Taisho... and so on. Basically, Heisei 28 means we're 28 years into the rule of the current emperor. We'll continue calling the year "Heisei (number)" until the current emperor passes away and a new emperor is set into place.

Oh yes, talking about businessmen doing funny things in Japan. There was this guy in an arcade, i walked by, he took off his jacket and folded it, put his suicase aside. And started dancing like crazy in front of this idols kind of game. And he did a perfect dance. All the girly moves, everything, was perfect. Then he just put back on his jacket and left, all sweaty. And i realised he must do that everynight to know the dance so well. Made my day.

Martina, I want to thank you for talking openly about your EDS. It's because of people like you, I recognized the symptoms and was able to get assessed. I saw a geneticist this week and have been officially diagnosed with EDS type III or it could be Type I. I also have POTS, Gastroparesis, and MALS all associated with the EDS. I've been seeing doctors for years about pain and digestive problems, but I was always treated like a histrionic woman who was mentally ill and a hypochondriac. It's so discouraging and demoralizing to be so sick and have no one believe you. I'm so relieved to have a diagnosis. Thank you for sharing your story and being a part of leading me to finally getting a diagnosis.

Hey Simon and Martina!
Even though the Rilakkuma Cafe is fully booked for reservations, you can still go to the cafe and get a numbered ticket to wait for your turn to enter the cafe. If you go to the cafe website and look at the reservation dates, you'll see "当日券あり", which means that there are same-day tickets available for that day. You should probably go to the cafe as early as it opens though(11am) since the earlier you go the earlier the entering time labeled on the ticket will be. ^^

be careful removing stickers some of them are legally required, such as those on door frames. They often define the fire resistance levels of the items and are required to be left in place.

The Final Fantasy cafe is awesome as well. The food at theme cafes is often so-so, but that Final Fantasy cafe has really delicious food. You also get a special coaster and you pick whether you are mage, warrior, healer, ect.

You can get into the Vampire Cafe or the Alice In Wonderland cafe without too much trouble.

Some of the cafes you have to wait on the reservation page and refresh like hell because when it flips to midnight you got to snag the reservation. My friends and I had to do that to get into one cafe we really liked. It was war... and we won.

Hovering has worked for some friends of mine. I've never heard of it working on weekend or holiday. However, it can work on weekdays. They didn't need to stay near the entrance.

They just came up and asked if they could have a table. When they staff said they're full, they bowed their heads in disappointment and mumbled, "...reservations? Nani?"

This elicited pity from the staff who told them a time there was an opening if they could come back then.

'Heisei' will become the name that is used to refer to the Emperor Akihito after he dies. It seems to be a pretty common thing across East Asia (China used to do this as well) to reset the calendar every time a new Emperor comes to the throne. So Emperor Akihito has been ruling for 28 years, hence why the year is 28 ;-)

In Japan, I'm not sure if this is in all arcades, but a lot of arcades will literally have an attendant move the plush you want in a position where it's impossible for you to lose. if you ask them after you try a few times then they will stand behind you and move it again if you can't get it the first time after they move it.

I love that in Japan people are non-judgmental about your personal hobbies! It is a quality I am definitely going to take back home with me.

3:10 You probably lose your deposit when you take the stickers off.
8:28 No no, March 1st was MY birthday!
16:00 You needed peanut butter and raisins for the celery.

The music choices at 12:55 onwards for the cookie trials are SO befitting. I'll have to try this challenge sometime. There should be a MEGA (extra) punishment if someone wins 3 times in a row >:D

I just wanted to say that you all were my inspiration to go to South Korea. Watching you all made me so excited to teach overseas. Sadly I had to end my contract early due to depression from a lot of different things. It was tough because I felt like I was a failure for not staying the whole year, but then I saw you all were leaving too. And I don't know, it felt like a sign that it wasn't failing, but instead preparing for my next journey. Thank you all so much for being my traveling spirit animals and continuing to inspire me to experience new things in life. I love your videos and look forward to the next.
