Ghadaffi planning to reject the dollar suddenly makes the US worry about the safety of Libya's citizens. The same way it cares about the citizens of Palestine, or Yemen, or...

Finally, Mehdi Hasan in his element. I rather see Mehdi discuss global issues, specifically the middle east than what Trump is upto in the next elections.

"When we intervene, something bad often happens; when we do not intervene, something bad often happens".

That is not true at all. When America intervenes, the things that happen are FAR WORSE than if it had never intervened. Also, even if we accept this statement to be true, what are the merits of intervention when something bad WILL happen either way? Why is there a need to spend billions of dollars only for something bad to continue happening? I should also point out that while Gaddafi had been seen as an enemy of the West, in his final years he had maintained a much more cordial relationship even so far that many countries like UK were negotiating various trade and other deals with him. I find it incredible that a serious effort was not made to attain a diplomatic solution. There are dozens of countries in which things are incredibly bad but America did not do anything to intervene in those countries (and nor should it ever do so!). North Korea's Kim Jong Un is far worse than Gaddafi ever was to his people but there is no US intervention? Why? Because North Korea is protected closely by Russia and China and because there are no oil reserves to gain from conquering it? It is the height of imperialism that America and its allies can do whatever they please and even change a country's government and bomb it to stone age without any regard for human life and no regard for taxpayer money being wasted on projects which only serve to increase hate for America and its allies.

ironically, at the time, Mehdi Hassan advocated to overthrow Mu'ammar Al Qaddafi, now conveniently he forgets about it

Libya is a more complex case than most: very little government to start with, geographically divided centers of power, self-interested authoritarian regimes as neighbors and a wildcard named Haftar
