No matter how much someone knows or has done, even older people like me, you can't think of everything. That's one of the reasons the information you share is so important. Little reminders mean a lot as do new ideas from all ages that we can draw from. Even meal ideas can become a fleeting thing in hard times.

Just a note... in my early life we canned. We would have a "grocery store" in the basement. We would can 400 quarts of tomatoes and of green beans. Large crocks full of product too. Meat plus bins of potatoes, carrots and onions. Barrel of flour, etc. That was for a house of 4 that shared with many others. If you actually ate what you have on hand it is surprising how much is needed to eat well even if you eat sparingly.

390 lbs of grains a year per person means over a pound of grains a day - I don't know about anyone else - but in our family we would not consume even half of that.

I showed the calculator to my husband and he was shocked. Now he understands why i stock up and that what i already have is not nearly enough. Thanks for the info!

Additionally….my motto/advice for the zombies that might try to make their way up this mountain…”from a place you won’t see will come a sound you won’t hear”

The nice thing about prepping, I have enough, and great variety. I really don't have to go to the store, unless I want something special. A lot of times, I see the crazy prices, and just go home to my pantry.

Only thing I use corn syrup for is pecan pie, popcorn balls and sugar substitute. Most diabetics can't have it however.

Been grabbing cans of Beach Cliff Fish Steaks by the case since Walmart put them back to less than $1/tin. Tin of them and some saltines is a marvelous snack/mini meal. I’ve eaten them a couple years past the best-by date and they were fine.

I’m prepped to the max up on this remote ridge top log cabin, but I had a revelation. When the SHTF how are things going to play out? With no power, we’ll run the generator enough to keep one of the refrigerators cold and keep a few things charged for a few weeks….I’ve lived up here for a month w/no power. As time passes the zombies are going to make their way up here. That will be a time of patrolling, my wife indoors w/shot gun, me out looking and listening with night vision equipped weapons and listening devices. No time for cooking, cooking smells, generator noise. It will be a time of protein/fiber bars and water. Military called them C-rations. Food and supplies are a necessity, but it isn’t going to be a time for making eggs, bacon and waffles. ⛰🌲👨‍🌾🙏🇺🇸

Get bleach tablets for long-term storage…at least that’s what I do.

After seeing these, I got to question their calculator, 320 quarts of fruits and vegies is 80 gallons, that's 16 5 gallon buckets, I do not eat anywhere near that much in a year normally. Just thinking about it, between the tomatoes, chilies, onions, and whatever other vegies you put in a pot of chili (around a gallon), it's not even a full quart and pot of chili will feed me for quite a few days. I'm pretty sure the break down of grains is just an example, the total amount is more important in what they say, if you don't ever use corn meal, don't stock it.

My 9 year old son is just like you. He LOVES eating spaghetti 🍝. It was one of the first things I started adding to my preps. And make sure to keep it in rotational stock, because if I run out during SHTF, he would be miserable. Lol

Lentil are the most convenient bean, the cook fast. throw in a few pieces of meat, vegetables and some seasonIng and its done in no more then an 1/2 hour and beans make sprouts. I sprouted lentil last week.

Totally agree w you on water brotha. Anyone who hasn't spent time in blistering heat won't understand that you can easily drink 3+ gallons of water a day. Never understood where the 1 gallon per day came from. Maybe Canada lol
