About 80% of cardiovascular diseases are preventable. Identifying the people at highest risk of CVDs and ensuring they receive appropriate treatment can prevent premature deaths—and a simple, inexpensive test could be a big help.
A CT calcium score test measures calcium buildup in the arteries that supply blood to your heart. It can help patients and doctors better understand a person’s risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and may help guide treatment for those with low to moderate risk of heart disease or help those whose heart disease risk isn't clear.
It's important to note that a low CAC score doesn't mean you're risk-free. The score must be considered in the context of your age and gender and other risk factors. Everyone is unique and statins can be an excellent course of treatment to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease by lowering your LDL. Come to a shared decision with your doctor about what would be best for you.
