You have to be a pipe welder to understand the contraption he built. In some countries, they don't have hardware stores like us in America. He basically saved himself about $300 bucks from having to buy a pipe stand and pipe clamps. Pipe welders weld not just two pipes together, but multiple pipes together, on most jobs. Knowledge is power !

Improvement/option 1. A).Weld a piece of 10x50x120 long flat-bar standing on edge under the welding zone to the underside of the angle iron trough. B). Cut away a 30mm section of the angle iron trough under the welding zone; that way the protruding weld on the tube won't catch on the angle-iron during rotation.  Option 2. Instead of the chain, use an adjustable bolt,  and lock-nut, passing through a piece of inverted threaded angle-iron x 2 that are welded to the back edge of the angle-iron trough,  on both sides; where both bolts are then adjusted  to push down at TDC (top dead centre) of each tube.

What a great idea, I will never get into the situation of having to weld together pipes, but the construction is so great that I get the desire to copy the whole thing - just because it's such a brilliant idea ...!

I am always amazed when I see people that don't know how roller chain works and they go to the trouble of cutting it rather than taking it apart.

Just a tip...knock that slag off before you start welding again. The weld quality will vastly improve.

I'm a retired welder and, that's a good idea, have used it for Many years, BUT, you need ta take some welding classes or get some Low Hydrogen Rods (or a Mig Welder) . Also bevel your pipe so you will get 100% penetration (Inside of pipe will look like it's welded .) and don't grind half your pipe away .

if you heat the pipes up with gas first it makes welding so much easier and there is no slag afterwards the arc strikes much easier too

not bad man, and to the sheet talkers, i used similar idea to actually build 8 cyclone fence posts from the scrapped metal tubes off a trampoline someone tossed out. the tubes had alot of curves in em but i just hacked off as many straight pieces as i could then welded em all up long enough to set in concrete post holes and then strung up the free cyclone fence roll i salvaged from another place. built me a nice 80 foot back yard fence for the price of a few bags of quikrete and a few pieces of fence hardware. (p.s. if u are welding any galvanized metals use extreme caution and do it with good ventilation as the fumes are highly toxic)

Next time drill holes for the two bolts, bolt them on instead of welding and they can be easily replaced if they get bent.
