Interestingly, in Japan we also have a day very similar to dios de los muertos known as “Obon” where the spirits of our ancestors and loved ones visit our realm to see us, as we go to their graves to clean and leave gifts for them. We also put up their pictures and candles. When my Japanese mom first watched Coco, she was surprised and amused to see how Mexico does the same thing.

The butterflies go to Michoacán Mexico end of October and early November is when they arrive there from Canada and Iowa
